I like to use Linux for weird shit, like servers or just one off little things. But if I'm daily driving something, it's gotta be Windows. I don't just browse the net. I actually do stuff, and I need an OS that I can control and manipulate that works with the softwares I use. I know Linux is more manipulatable than Windows, but it's also just harder to use in that way (at least for me). I hate Apple more than myself (which says something) so OSX is an obvious no go (and having daily driven it before, I still don't like it). As for Chrome OS, I don't really like it all. I mean, it's good for browsing the net, but even then, I just can't stand it. Otherwise, like I said, it's Windows for me. But not a version you can normally get your hands on...

Before I reply:
It's Mac OS/macOS, not Mac.

Mac is a computer brand.

Mac OS/macOS is an operating system.

Thank you.

And I prefer Windows, then Linux Mint tied with OS X 10.4/10.6/10.13/10.15.

Haven't experienced OS 11 yet.

Kinda how I feel when people say "mac vs pc" like no. PC is not an operating system. It stands for personal computer, so if you own your Macbook Pro, it's a PC.

Manjaro Cinnamon for sure, been my main OS for a good while now

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Manjaro is the best in my experience. Easy to install and use (no really driver headaches) and has pacman. Tried to install Linux mint once but that did not go to plan (The Installer would not load) and I have tried Ubuntu and Ubuntu Mate before which were pretty good (but no as good as manjaro) and I tried Fedora a while ago on an old machine which ran Windows Vista (I now use Mac and Linux) and it worked pretty well and Fedora has probably developed a bit, since I used it a few years back

I have been using OpenBSD on my desktops, laptops, servers, and routers/gateways since about 2010 and will not use anything else, except perhaps for code testing purposes. It's the most user friendly, straightforward, and reliable OS I have found.

Same here, I got BSOD on new PC at cold boot several times this year. I get used to.

My favorite ? Redox

  • Microkernel so drivers theoretically can't crash the OS + added security
  • Entire stack is written in rust so you get memory safety
  • Interesting design (treats everything as a URL)
  • Rewrote pretty much everything with a modern design in mind like filesystem (TFS), their own package archive (Pkgar), etc

Even if it leads nowhere, it will have been a great academic project with unique ideas.

Everyday usage ? Fedora

Rock solid package manager, decent security, and fairly new packages that get tested thoroughly.

Arch Linux, just because I prefer more up to date packages in the Linux world and dislike application containers, though ive been considering moving to KDE Neon.

Would be windows if they would actually test updates before they push them out and didn't dumb everything down.

Linux gives you way more control and Arch lets you have even more control than most other distros, not like how Microsoft tries to control your PC with Candy Crush and does not let you truly control the OS.

I like Fedora Workstation. It's very bleeding edge, not in terms of packages, but in terms of the technologies it uses; Wayland, BTRFS, ZRAM, EarlyOOM, etc... That also means it's very good for stuff like laptops, maybe phones one day. It's impressively stable for such a bleeding edge OS, and it has fantastic memory management.
