Whats with this audio port on my monitor?

🤔 So on my LG monitor, it has a port on the back that says "H/P". Can I connect my speaker system directly to my monitor, or is that just for head phones? My monitor insists I do since my sound keeps switching to it every time I turn off the monitor. It looks like its listed as "AMD High Definition Audio Device" in the sound control panel.

It's usually a passthrough where audio comes through the HDMI cable and you can use it as an audio out. It should work with your speaker system.

I've used it once on my BenQ though and the quality was properly bad in comparison to the normal audio ports on my PC, not sure if that's a general thing though.

Probably, plug them in and find out.

If you want to stop it taking your audio you can disable in sound settings, manage sound devices.

You can connect either headphones or speakers to it.

It's the same way we refer to a 3.5mm connector on a phone as a "headphone jack", no one is stopping you from plugging in speakers after all.

I see, yeah, I just connected it, and it does work. I'm gonna try it out in a video game and see how good it sounds compared to the audio ports on the PC.

Yep, tried it with hp port, and its definitely worse than using the PC port.
