Choose what content to receive a notification for from followed members

Go to solution Solved by colonel_mortis,

That makes sense, and has been suggested before. It's not supported by the forum software by default, but it looks like there's a plugin for it so I will look into getting that.

Just an idea I had recently. It might be nice to have a way to choose what kind of content to receive a notification for from people you follow. For example, when I follow someone it's generally because I want to be notified when they post a new topic or status update. However, I don't really need to be notified when they comment on someone else's post, or reply to a post they already made. It would be nice to be able to choose what specific things you get notified about for followed members, as I often get a lot of junk notifications from people I follow commenting on other posts. This may be too complicated to implement for all I know, or I may be the only one who cares, but I thought I would put the idea out there to see if anyone else sees it as interesting.

Or maybe I'm dumb and there's already a way to do it, but I can't seem to find it.

I mostly speak from my own past experience from similar problems. My solution may not work for you, but I'll always try my best to help as much as I can. If you want me to see your reply, make sure to quote my comment or mention me @WaggishOhio383, and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

If you go to notification settings, there is an option for followed content. In there you change the settings so you do not get notifications every time someone you follow makes a post. I believe that is the extent of customization for following settings.

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

This should be working now.

Would it be under notification settings? I can't seem to figure out how to change it if it's been changed.

Is there a way to change the default to status updates only? Right now there are only a few members I want to be notified about all content but when I turn it on, it automatically marks everything for all the members I already follow.

Not very easily, but I've found some bugs with the plugin that we're using so I will have a think at some point about how it could be changed.
