What is this? "Rare" GPU

So i found a "rare" GPU for sale named ARES 3. The seller states its rare and only 500 was ever produced. He also says that it is suuper powerful and will beat most of the modern benchmarks.

What GPU is under the hood tho? Why was it ever produced? Is it really rare?

As far as I can tell it's a dual-290X card. Absolutely will not beat any modern card in benchmarks, but it could be a nice collector's item.

Yep, just like said above, cool collectors item, but won't beat a new modern card at the same price.

well it's a collector piece...   that said it can still keep up with today's cards, it's about as powerful as a 5500 xt... not too shabby!

It was back when ASUS ROG made 100% fully unlocked dual GPU graphic cards, it's two R9 290X's, basically a custom R9 295X2. They're absolutely insane cards for overclockers but for gaming are 100% impractical and sorta useless, and yes they only had a limited number, usually 1000 made, idk if they only made 500 of the ARES III though. Card came stock with a full cover EK block so needs water cooling experience too. 

FYI those new where like €1600 in todays money.
