10900k upgrade questions

Norton50

I just heard I won one of the LTX 10900k and Cryocooler packages. Very excited. I have to severely upgrade my system to accommodate, and my big question lies on the necessity of motherboard power delivery. In Linus' video, he uses an ASUS Maximus Extreme board, which is 16 phase. Is this overkill, even with the draw of a 10900k running at these high clocks.

Linus uses these boards because he can, not because he has to. There should be quality VRM boards available in the 200-300$ range too.

I use a ASUS Maximums Hero XII and it does fine.

I run stock with the Intel power limit removed so 4.9ghz all the time. This beats my 6 and 8 core CPUs that are overclocked to 5.1ghz in games that don't use many cores.

With a 360mm AIO I am always below 70c even using 230 watts.

With a 5.3ghz overclock the CPU is stable(it has never crashed) but will throttle in some benches. At 5.3ghz it uses just over 330 watts. I may try a push-pull setup in the future but for now I am happy with the performance I am getting.

I am looking at that exact board. 14+2 seems like the next best, and I've been happy with ASUS in the past. I currently have a X Formula. Thanks for the input guys, I'm waiting for official confirmation from Intel before I pull the trigger - exciting.
