Make the ads open in a new tab

AvMaverick
Go to solution Solved by colonel_mortis,

It looks like the ads that are affected are ads that are using raw HTML rather than the forum's built in ad feature, and that raw HTML didn't set it to open in a new tab for whatever reason. I've updated them.

Simple request. I usually tap on an ad reading a thread and it opens on the same tab. If it can open in another tab, my experience will be much smoother.

If you don't have a middle mouse click (normally press down on scroll wheel)

Right click and first option is normally open in new tab

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Just asking why do you want to open the ads, did the ads actually work?

Reminder⚠️

I'm just speaking from experience so what I say may not work 100%

To add to the suggestions others have provided you can also CTRL + left click to open in a new tab. If you are on a mobile device then long press will bring up the menu and you can select to open in a new tab that way.

Or perhaps you are talking about accidentally clicking on ads? I'm not sure how common that is of a problem but I think opening ads in a new tab would be a reasonable solution.

Even on purpose, most websites do open it in a new tab. I really don't know who would want them in the same one? A better default makes for a better solution.

I don't see any ads, even when not logged in (for some reason), but I'm pretty sure my Firefox opens anything which would be on another domain to new tab automatically.

Using a chromium-based browser (Brave), but experience is the same in Chrome as well.

Why would you ever what to click on ads? I hope you are doing this in a virtual machine or else you are kind of asking to get a malware infection

My Laptop: A MacBook Air

My Desktop: Don’t have one

My Phone: An Honor 8s (although I don’t recommend it)

My Favourite OS: Linux

My Console: A Regular PS4

My Tablet: A Huawei Mediapad m5

I think OP meant ads on the LTT forum specifically as that's something that the forum admins can perhaps control.

Ok yeah, ads on LTT are controlled by LTT I believe and you will not get a virus from those!

It looks like the ads that are affected are ads that are using raw HTML rather than the forum's built in ad feature, and that raw HTML didn't set it to open in a new tab for whatever reason. I've updated them.

Looks like - on my end - all ads open in a new tab, except for the Amazon ad which does open in the same tab (on Chrome, Windows).
