Should I pay 269.99 for the i7 8700k?

I want to build a PC, and I found the i7 8700k for $269.99 Last week, it was 290, and on Saturday it was 369.99 and now it dropped by 100 dollars.

Is this a good deal?

really want an 8700k, and I prefer it over the 10600k, which is the same price.

The performance is nearly identical to the i5 10600k, and they both cost the same price.

269.99

Is it worth paying an extra $30 for the 9900k from Micro Center?

I would rather pay the extra $30 for a i9-9900k than not for a 3 year old processor. You would have 8C/16T with the 9900k vs 6C/12T with the 8700K, as well as IPC improvements (marginally with Skylake due to 14nm).

You should've included that in your OP.

In that case, get the i7.

Ok, I forgot to mention that I got an SSD, 500W EVGA PSU, Optical Drive and Mother Board.

The board is compatible with a 9900k.

$200 is where an i7-8700k is worth it

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

Pretty sure the 9700k was on sale for $200 at microcenter.
if I was buying now I’d prolly go 10 series but if I was limited because of the board and budget, 9700k it is.

I think I should go for the i5 9600k. The main reason I wanted to go with an 8700k was because I wanted more money to save for my GPU.

But the i5 9600k is only $150 @ Micro Center.

I think I should go for the 9600k.

Not sure why it would come with a warranty. Nor should you be looking for one with used products, especially a cpu in this case.

Get the 9900k

It's been exactly an entire month. I have bought all of my components except the CPU and GPU.

Specs:

  • MSI MPG Z390 Gaming Plus
  • Cougar MX330-G
  • Some LG Optical Drive from Micro Center.
  • G.Skill DDr4 3200 (2x8gb) TridentZ Z370(Probably also works with Z390)
  • Hyper212x Turbo Dual Fan.
  • EVGA 80+ 500w PSU.
  • Inland Professional 120gb SATA SSD.
  • Hitachi Ultrastar 7K4000 3TB (I am worried about drive errors, because this costed the price of a 1TB HDD on Amazon, and this was new, not used. When it came in the mail, there was a little piece of paper that gave instructions, and told me to format it before I use it.)
  • i9-9900k or i5-9600k. IDK which to chose.
  • For my Video Card, I want a 1650 super, but it is out of stock everywhere for some reason. Idk why, because it is form 2019. But I am participating in giveaways for a 3000 series card.

The price of the i9 9900k has raised by $70. I talked to a worker at Micro Center(When I was buying my CPU cooler(Hyper 212x Turbo(Better than evo)) and I asked if the price of the 9th gen CPUs will be on sale again, and he said that there might be another sale this summer.

But I was debating this entire time(exactly a month) whether I should get the i5 9600k @ Micro Center (Only raised by $20) or the 9900k from NewEgg. I am thinking about the 9900k from Newegg, which comes with Crysis, and it costs $410. https://www.newegg.com/intel-core-i9-9900k-core-i9-9th-gen/p/N82E16819118147?Item=N82E16819118147

The i3-9100F costs $70.

The i5-9600k costs $170.

The i7-9700k costs $270.

The i9-9900k costs $370.

($100 dollar increase in a pattern.)

But if I get the 9900k, then I will pay $410, for Crysis and the other software.

So which processor should I get?

I will be running Virtual Machines, Video calls, and Minecraft on my PC.

Get the extra cores for VMs. There is no reason to get a non-hyperthreaded 9th gen processor in today's age, unless its a office PC or for grandparents.

I am planning to run a Virtualbox VM within a VMWare VM(or the other way around) and I will have a different operating system on each system, and I will have a VPN on each system, with antiviruses on each system, and I will have the most secure  system ever.

Will a 9900k (or maybe 9600k) with 16gb of RAM be enough?

Still a 9900K, but probably 32GB of RAM depending on how many VMs your doing.
