Good Power Bank Recommendations?

Guest

Hey all. My brother's looking for a power bank for his phone etc., and I offered to get him one. He wants something with 20,000mAh+ which has USB C.

The first one he pointed me to was this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0895P2M5M/ Trouble is, it's one of those generic products made by a reseller and then listed on Amazon under a dozen different "manufacturers", and looking for the model name -- HX160S4 -- reveals quite a few poor reviews, with things like it dying after only a few months, things like that. I found an alternative from a good brand (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07RPNHZDC/), however I'm still not settled on what to get. The solar charging part is not necessary, only a bonus -- like I said, the requirements are a high capacity and USB C, hence I also considered something from Anker: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07S829LBX/ (though my brother has had a poor experience with Anker previously).

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Anker is solid ... avoid those things with solar cells ... the solar panel is so small you'd have to keep that thing in the sun for 10+ hours to charge it up, when you could use a regular AC adapter to charge it within half an hour from the wall.

My brother has been through two of their banks, a 6,000mAh model and a 10,000mAh one, and he said they lost capacity very quickly. Going by reviews on Amazon I'd bet these were outliers, since Anker is well-rated overall (plus their support has a good reputation -- something my brother didn't utilise before since the banks were given to him by his workplace).

Also, like I said, the solar charging thing is not necessary, just something extra he wanted for the summertime.

Exposure to 40+ degrees C for a long time wouldn't be good for the battery.

I went with an energiser one from Argos. Cost like £40 but is solid.

I also agree with Anker. I've had two.

First 10,400mAh device lasted several years of wife's bad charging habits (both phone & bank) & then the strenuous Pokemon Go craze, before succumbing to being left in a freezing car for a couple weeks straight.

Second is ~ 18,000mAh (I think) & was purchased last spring. Still going strong after kids use at Scout camps throughout last year. This year has been light on it, but I'll use it from time to time instead of a wall charger just to let it cycle every couple months.
