Video and photo editing software

I was wondering if anyone knew of any good video and photo editing software that's free (I have gimp and filmora pro) I was just wondering if there is any better software out there that's free, I don't need it right now but I just like to have it around if I need it.

I'm new to Photography but enjoy it. I also run a Pentax *ist-DL mainly with a 18-55mm lens. I also have a 50-200 mm Pentax lens, and a Pentax 50 lens that is all it says.

GIMP is about the best for image manipulation.

 

DaVinci Resolve is what I'd go with for video

I have a pretty low level system so I want to make sure it will work well here's my specs: MSI B450-A Pro max, ryzen 3200g (with vega 8 graphics), 8gb of 3200mhz ram (dual channel of course), Gigabyte 500w psu, corsair 275r airflow, and an inland 512gb nvme ssd, (I have more upgrades on the way my when my brother gets a 30 series card he'll give me his rx 580)

Gimp is fucking awesome for photos, I personally like Kdenlive for video but Resolve is more "powerful".

Free? Not in the Windows world, not really. Lotta low-level "Ms Paint" type stuff, GIMP will be the best of the free stuff

Yep, that's really the end of this thread.
Both are very good and quite powerful. And best of all. FREE.

Lunacy (vector design tool) and Audacity (audio editor) are also some free powerful apps to keep in your creation arsenal too.

For davinci, have a frequent autosave or manual Dave yourself. Lower powered systems, crash even more often. Also set the review resolution to 1/4 or something that works, depend on the editing video resolution

Davinci Resolve is very good.

 

If it doesn't playback good, first use the feature called "Optimize Media" and then if it still don't play back smoothly, lower the playback resolution.

 

For image manipulation like Photoshop, an alternative to Gimp that is less powerful, but in my opinion much easier to use is Paint.net.

 

For RAW image editors, like Lightroom, some free alternstives are Rawtherapee, ART, and Darktable and is all good ones.

Which version of Davinci Resolve should I get 17 beta, studio 17 beta, 16, or studio 16

I think I'll just go with resolve 16 just because I have a bit more of a low level system.

I think that it's working fine though I may try and edit a bit of video but if I have any problems I'll try what you're saying

I'm just gonna parrot the rest of the thread, as a user of Gimp and Davinci Resolve.

 

Resolve will work well with video cards like an RX 580, not sure about the 3200G iGPU.

I'd still use 17 personally as the performance improvements outweigh it crashing occasionally. Funny enough a beta version of software crashes less than Adobes products

I've been using resolve 16 with a tutorial on my second monitor and it's been working really well, so I think I'm good with resolve.

 

I'm new to Photography but enjoy it. I also run a Pentax *ist-DL mainly with a 18-55mm lens. I also have a 50-200 mm Pentax lens, and a Pentax 50 lens that is all it says.
