Being a E-Sport pro is a dream for many teens. But for one his career has certainly taken a head start.

Thoughts: My mother once said "It's fine to game, as long you are making something useful out of it" and this kid is going to be an idol for many. Of course it's impossible to say how good he actually is but I bet he can kick my ass.

Kids have incredible response times so I wouldn't doubt it. eSports is also big and well enough established that it's just like going pro in the NFL, NBA, WNBA, or any other major sports

Honestly good for him. Kids start physical sports very early as well so it really just makes sense that eSports would do the same thing. And in eSports younger people are actually the ones with the physical advantage due to faster reaction times (as @BuckGup said).

 

I very much hope he takes care of his back and wrists though. Sports injuries are still a thing for eSports, and sitting all day is not great for a body.

How does it matter whether it is demanding in physical or other terms? They're all playing a game. Sometimes a very silly game (like "throw this thing far"). So are chess or go players (and some stock traders :P).

I'm sorry this is terrible. Kids that young need to be in school and doing something that will help them in the future. Look I get it eSports are the new big thing and will probably be huge in future too no doubt but c'mon this is just not acceptable. This is no different than those crazy parents who put their daughters in those crazy beauty pageants. All it is is a cash grab by the parents on the backs of kids destroying their future. Bottom line kids not even in highschool are too young to be playing eSports at this level. You only get one childhood so don't waste it.

 

Look I know a competitive gamer he wasn't crazy big time like Ninja but he made decent money when he did it in highschool. His parents gave him a choice play videogames competitively or quit and go to school. He chose to go to school you know why because he said no matter how good he got the amount of time he spent on it and the ROI would never be good enough to replace a real honest job and an education that last a lifetime.

I get the gripes a lot of people have with this, but child celebrities have existed for a very long time and can have good lives and at least okay childhoods.  Unless the parents are forcing this on him, he probably sees this as fun!  I honestly wish the best for this kid regardless; he's already inspirational, like it or not!

You could say this about any sport.  Many athletes have gone from rags to riches through sports.  Olympians and other pros alike.  And most great athletes start very young (Michael Jordan) with exceptions (Dennis Rodman).

As @Drama Lamapointed out, there's much to be debated about the professionalization of children. However, conflating it with the nature of the activity harms the discussion. Children exploitation (or lack thereof) is independent of my views on the particular job they're given.

Judging from the article about how awesome team 33 is, I would imagine this is just some hyped up shenanigans.  However, if you can make a living at it then by all means go for it.  It's no different than other Olympic sports, you pay and pay to possibly get the chance to make a short living at it.  The big money is with the leagues like football or baseball or American football. Everyone else has to eventually find a real job. Most of the Olympians I know had to get a job afterwards, even with some decent sponsors(canada btw).  

 

In any case, I believe it's pronounced pwned.

I and I'm sure many others before me remember having people literally telling us you would never make money playing video games. And now an 8 year old was signed to an esports team. We really got shafted as a generation huh?

I don't see anything wrong with this as long his parents have a brain and force him to focus on his education so when Fortnite is dead in a couple of years he isn't just human trash trying to stay relevant on the internet like most people who got famous for a short while and then forgotten.

Thoughts: My mother once said "It's fine to game, as long you are making something useful out of it" and this kid is going to be an idol for many. Of course it's impossible to say how good he actually is but I bet he can kick my ass.

No one tell the team that the minimum age to compete in any Epic Games hosted tournament is 13. Kids not going to be able to even compete in anything.
