How well do two Xeon x5670s run Minecraft with shaders?

Alright, this isn't really the right forum, however, everywhere else I posted it my request got ignored. The point of my question that I would like to pull the trigger on a 1650 Super I saw on sale for 200$ Canadian. I will be recording gameplay with OBS 1080p 60fps (Silder's Basic Shaders). I am asking this question because this processor is very old and the single core/thread performance is extremely important in Minecraft. Any other specs and details will be listed below-

48 Gigs of 1333mz ram

Current GPU is a NVS Quadro 290 (barely get 720p 30 fps with it)

1100WATT PSU (HP z800)

Dual CPU Configuration (totaling 12 cores 24 threads)

And hey, I might record some other games for my YouTube channel. There are no other external resources and or videos about this configuration and processor, henceforth me reaching out to you guys.

Thanks,

xniqht

Shaders probably wouldn't put to much additional load on the CPU. But, any gaming on a dual socket board is usually crap because of the memory fetch latency things.

Can you overclock those x5670s? If so you can get them to 4Ghz easy, maybe 4.4 on a good board. A single x5670 oc'd to 4.4 can almost match an  i7 4770. Duel CPU's can be an issue though, you'd be better off with an X58 board and a single 5670 tbh.

Minecraft only runs on one core so it doesn't really matter. It'll run well, but don't expect 24 threads to make a difference.

Well leaving them at 2.66?? stock makes them pretty crap. I'm sure the workstation board would be capable of an OC if they didn't nerf it. I wonder if someone could make a custom bios?

Yeah the FX chips are pretty weak, I'm building a budget gaming PC for sale atm, even OC'd to the max at 4.6Ghz the FX6300 barely matches a 3rd gen i5 or first gen ryzen 1200 (in multi core) single core it's not great..........And they still sell for stupid money, was looking for an FX8350, they sell regular on ebay for over £70!!!

X5670 is 2.93GHz and has 3.33GHz turbo. X5650 is the 2.66GHz (3.06GHz turbo) one. The only OC capable dual LGA1366 motherboard is the really expensive EVGA SR-2.

Most likely it isn't possible to make a custom bios with OC capability. I have heard that some people have been able to overclock on the Z800 by using SetFSB, but I don't know what the right clock generator for it is.

OC'd to within an inch of it's life for no other reason than I can....It's running dual gt210 GPU's to run 3 monitors lmao! I think it has ECC ram on an asus board as well. IIRC the multiplier was the only thing better on the 5670, could raise it to 22 instead of 20 on the 5650??

Ever tried the X5690? They sell for decent money still, not worth it at all.

X5670 has higher multiplier than the X5650 but it's also better binned so it might overclock higher or need less voltage for the same frequency. X5675 is the one people usually recommend because it's even better binned and doesn't cost anywhere near as much as X5680 and X5690.

X5690 (and X5680) only makes sense for non-overclockable dual CPU systems and maybe for non-overclockable single socket systems but for those there is Xeon W3680 (i7-980X) and W3690 (i7-990X) that can be overclock via Intel XTU because they have unlocked multiplier.

I have a X5670 @ 4.4GHz (22x200, 1.385v or something) in my main PC

To be honest the 5680/90 doesn't make sense to me at all, if you're willing to spend that on a pair of decade old chips, you may as well upgrade to  AM4.

What  makes me think is why didn't Intel push the envelope with the westmere tech? A 4.2Ghz 6 core/12 thread at the time would have been groundbreaking.

Worst thing is I can't overclock because the stupid HP Mobo bios doesn't support overclocking and I can't find a custom bios for it :/

Thank you, however I have tried that and It was unsuccessful

Shaders probably wouldn't put to much additional load on the CPU. But, any gaming on a dual socket board is usually crap because of the memory fetch latency things.

Well, what can I do? Those extra cores will help me in video editing and production

Minecraft only runs on one core so it doesn't really matter. It'll run well, but don't expect 24 threads to make a difference.

That's why I'm asking, I wanted to know if the single core performance from 10 years ago can record in 1080p 60 with shaders. I currently have fast render on in optifine, making it run on most cores so it gives me better performance, but with shaders fast render isn't compatible

Single core performance does for shaders. Will it be enough?

Not sure if this helps but I could run extreme shaders on 60fps and high on 110 with a gtx 1060 and a 3700x. It seems shaders like having a good cpu which is strange because they ran a lot slower on my 2200g

It can because OBS should be using the remaining 23 threads.

At 60? Planning to use just Sildur's basic shaders to record PvP on hypixel.
