LTT sponsor Privacy.com

su01

I saw today's LTT video and signed up with Privacy.com but there isn't a forum to discuss sponsors.

I googled a couple threads from 3 years ago so maybe we can discuss it here today since it's a sponsor.

It asked my name, address, DOB, and phone (voip does not work). Added bank via Plaid (no option to add bank via account/routing)

I have a $250/wk spending limit, $1k per month.

And my question is whether this spending limit gets lifted if i sign up for the $10/month plan, or whether i should age my account first.

Update: So their own help file says to spend regularly and after 2 months maybe you get more limits, or you can ask for them. The Pro subscription plan doesn't increase spending limits.

Overall it's not terribly useful. Today marks about 6 months i've been a customer. I've maxed out the $1k monthly limit a few times. I maxed out $250 daily limit many times.

Their automatic algo has never raised my limit and when i emailed them today, they said i need to use it more. For me, there's nothing worth buying under $250, which is the daily limit. It's a gimmick, maybe useful for students or part-time workers. Also it only allows 3 cards per retailer. I rate it 3.5/10, for limited usefulness.

Some credits cards have a "virtual cards" feature built in, which works a lot like privacy.com.  That might be more useful, since you'd have access to your full credit limit.  Bank of America supports virtual cards, for example.

I've been using Privacy for years and haven't had any real issues. (then again, I don't have any subscription services and don't use it that much in general. I have 2 transactions from the past 3 months...)

I mainly just have it for if I want to order something from some random online store so I don't have to put in my actual card details.

Also, you can go above the daily limit. I've done it a few times, idk how much above that limit you can go though, I only went <$50 over the limit.

I'm a little confused as to why one would need more than 3 cards for one retailer.

I agree but for different reasons, It's usually promoted more for subscriptions/small purchases like online food ordering, etc. which is works great for. But yeah, I don't use it for stuff like eBay because of the $250 'limit' (plus I already have payment info linked to eBay for payouts).

what I REALLY want is a physical solution, most of my transactions are with my physical card and I would love to have separate cards I could use with limits on them.
If only there was a way to do NFC payments or something through Privacy.

why no dark mode?
