Static killed my microphones?

daveycrocketcat

I recently purchased a lavalier mic .... plugged it into the mic input. It worked well for a day or two. Then it stopped. I went thru every possible step and process to see if it was the computer itself and nope.

I tried the mic on other devices and it failed. I could get a very faint signal if anything but that was it.

I then bought another mic from a different manufacturer and the exact same thing happened.

Went to use my headset and the mic on it was also fried.

So three mics have been damaged from my computer. It's winter and static is not good. I tried the back sound port and the same issue happened.

Computer is grounded ..... is there any way at all I can protect my mics from Static shock or do I need to actually put a strap on the case and hook it to my wrist or leg LOL.

Any other solutions .... or humidifier.

Is there a way to repair a lav mic or any mic after this ??

Would a wireless usb mic solve the issue ??

I literally walk into the room, touch the computer case and a small spark starts it up and out of sleep mode. :(
