AIO Failing, suggestions?

Gazereths

My Kraken x61 is starting to make some disturbing noises from the pump, I was thinking of replacing it anyway for something with ARGB, any suggestions?

Have looked at the 240mm TUF LC, seems to be a decent price, anyone have experience with this cooler? I know it'll be a slight downgrade from a 280mm Kraken in terms of radiator size.

I'm only running a Ryzen 5 3600 at the minute but plan to upgrade to a 3900x or even a 3950x when the used prices come down in a year or 2.

I'm a big fan of the Wraith Spire, it's what I got on my CPU. The RGB looks really sharp in any case, and a Ryzen 5 3600 really doesn't need anything bigger than that.

True, but can you buy them individually or are they only bundled with CPUs? TBH I wouldn't mind getting rid of the extra cables an aio has. Would it cool an OC 3950x?

I'm wondering if these come under different names here in the UK, never seen AIO's by either at any major retailers. I know EK make parts for custom loops (blocks etc) but not really interested in that at the moment,. though I'd like to do a custom loop one day.

I bought mine off Amazon for about $20. It happened to be an older one with the copper slug in it. Not sure if the newer ones have that still.

It would not be enough for a 3950X, but at that point you're probably not looking into stock coolers...?

Didn't even know there were different versions of them. I searched my local facebook marketplace, there was one but he wanted £35, seems a b it rich for a used air cooler.

I think the 3950x would be ok with a good 280mm or 360mm AIO with some OC headroom, that's just a guess though, not dealt with any Ryzens over 8 cores before.

Condersidered an air cooler? No more pump failing with an air cooler.

The only problem right now  is that any great air coolers do not have RGB.

If one basic solution is needed the Arctic Freezer 50 has some bits of RGB. Comes close to the Noctua NH-D15 in terms of performance.

Alternatively one could buy the Noctua NH-D15S and replace the included fan with two 120mm RGB fans. This may get pricey though and at that point

The thing that makes the D15S so good though, is the fans. Otherwise it's just another heatpipe/fin tower.

Thanks for the suggestions, I found a brand new Wraith Prism on Facebook for £20 locally, so just gonna use that until I upgrade my CPU in a couple years time.  Not fitted it though so no idea what temps will be like compared to the aio.

Hey dude just wanted to thank you for the suggestion. I installed the Prism today (not the spire) and am impressed with it, not only does it look good and cool well (only about 7-10 degrees hotter than the aio under full load) but it's cooled my  boot SSD down over 10 degrees. The SSD is between the CPU and the GPU so gets baked, and it's a hot running PCIe 4.0 anyway, so a down draft cooler gave it some much needed air.

RAD! Yeah I like how it glows AMD. It looks really sharp.

I would have never thought about the SSD. I have 6 case fans on my rig, and I never would have thought about NVME cooling. I typically don't see my two NVME's go past 40C

I know I'm a little late to the party here, I use a evga clc 360mm aio and it's been great. Kept a overclocked 10700k @ 5.2ghz under 70c while gaming no problem. I'm using it on a i5 10400 now and it stays under 50c. I got it from evga when they had a b stock sale for $69, it was brand new when I got it. None of the screw holes have been touched and had all the plastic on it still.

@Gohardgrandpa CLC might be decent but not worth the money. The ek aio and Artic Freezer II are better since they have thicker rad. Seems like the CLC has rather slim rad.

People suggesting air coolers... Sure they work, but they have a lousy heat soaking capacity. AiO's can soak huge amounts of heat in short time before equilibrium within liquid happens, meaning they'll deal with massive heat spikes far better than air coolers that get saturated basically instantly. Which can affect the fan curve a lot if you value silence. With AiO's it'll be much slower. Though that depends on motherboards. MSI surprised me with one of the best fan controls I've seen and I'm slightly disappointed with ASUS that I got now. MSI had fans kick in with slight delay where ASUS just does it so instantly. And MSI also had system temperature sensor which was amazing for chassis fans. CPU fan was controlled more immediately based on CPU temperature where chassis fans were controlled by SYSTEM temperature which had smaller and slower changes, meaning case fans slowly ramped up as internals heated up and also ran for a bit longer after load was gone, pushing the air out. ASUS just bases all of it on CPU temperature and fans just make these abrupt sudden changes a lot. And I have an AiO. If it was an air cooler it would probably drive me insane. So, take that into consideration too if you value silence a lot.

Looks decent, do they do a 280mm version?

Unfortunately my case wont support 360mm, max is 280mm. You got a decent deal on that, maybe it was a return because of case size issues or just a damaged box?

Yes I agree the aio's tend to soak more heat and take longer for the rad/liquid to get saturated. Depends what fans you have on how quiet it is obviously, my corsair 140mm fans that I had on a 280mm rad were pretty loud tbh, and you could hear slight noise from the pump, noise doesn't really bother me as long as it's not excessive. The only advantage to air coolers is increased airflow around the socket/vrm/ssd....That and price of course, although some of the higher end air coolers are almost as much as a aio.
