Building a PC for a friends son for Christmas. Ebay's scarce, R/hardwareswap has literally nothing, and I really dont want to make the kid wait.

Newegg has both of these cards as cards I can buy

The issue I have with the BE card is it's a smaller and slower version of the 5600xt, but what I understand, the 5600xt is just faster, on par with a 2060. The last option is to loan the kid my personal GTX970 I'm not using (but am holding onto cause it was my first card EVER) until prices normalize, but I dont want to gimp the gaming experience and/or go back to their place in a month or two and update it.

True. And that pulse is one of the best models too. I would take the pulse.

Get the 970 from your kid and wait for 5600XT's price to come down a little.

Def the 5600XT. Basically an AMD RTX 2060.

I found a couple GTX 1070s for around $250 on ebay, which is high for a used 1070 but everything is pricey right now. Can't post links but I found them by going straight to the buy it now listings, if you find one in the US it's quite likely to arrive before xmas.

1070s are not as good as 1660 Ti but they're all a rookie gamer needs for 1080p tbh, though maybe you can find a better price by bidding on an auction.

Damn, looks like new parts are really that expensive. That's the only alternative I got then.

A tidbit on the 5600 XT BE, it looks like they only gimped the clockspeed, so you should be able to OC it up to 5600XT performance. I'd say it's the easy choice.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

Cooler size is also gimped, so it's either gonna run hotter, louder or both is my fear. I cant find any mainstream reviews or teardowns.

I bought my 1070ti's in ITNOS for less back in the day; I'd rather go with something more modern if it's gonna be used (I actually almost picked up a Full Fledged 5600XT Pulse for $305 but ebay bidding wars and all that :/)

I've been scouring FB marketplace too; which is a crap shoot since half of them dont know the value of their own left tow let alone a 6 mo old GPU with no box asking $350

Just a heads up, that Newegg is having shipping issues with UPS.  I placed an order for two items last weekend.  One item shipped and the other item is still waiting to be picked up.  Based on news articles, Newegg and other businesses have met or exceeded the contractual agreed number of packages being shipped

There's currently a banner on Neweggs site listing the shipping concerns 👍

I'd say go for the 5600XT. Couldn't imagine the kid doing anything strenuous with the card. You could probably undervolt it for him with a mild OC, too. Good luck with purchase!

XC ultra and Pulse BE are both sold out.

MSI's Gaming X is now up for $300. I wont wait any longer waiting and go with that since hearing recent news of a GDDR6 shortage.

https://www.newegg.com/msi-geforce-gtx-1660-ti-gtx-1660-ti-gaming-x-6g/p/N82E16814137391?Description=1660ti&cm_re=1660ti-_-14-137-391-_-Product

The 5600XT that was being recommended just yesterday for $280 is also Out of stock. I'm 100% being a selfish and lazy person by not letting them just borrow the card I have already, but likely they would never know about the extra performance gain/loss regardless, as they'll likely be gaming at 1080p for a while.

If anyone comes across this thread in the future, go with the 5600XT assuming it's in stock.
