Internal USB 3.0 Splitter Questions

Go to solution Solved by Kilrah,

You need the hub. The Y splitter would only be useful if you have 2 front panel connectors but only one port is used on each, which I've never seen so this product doesn't seem to make sense.

My case has 2 USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A front panel connectors supporting 4 USB 3.0 ports, however my motherboard only has 1 USB 3.2 Gen 1 header. I'd like the option to use all 4 USB ports and I'm wondering if this would work:

Would there be a problem connecting to all 4 USB 3.0 ports at once other than reduced speed? I assume full speed would still work with only 1 USB port utilized?

Also, is there a difference between the above or an active hub like this:

I realize that I could use a PCIe
USB 3.0 internal header extension card to achieve this with no detriment to speed, however I'd rather not use a PCIe lane just for that (and it would look ugly in my setup). Browsed around for a while and couldn't find a lot of useful info on this subject.
