Hi I’m currently running an i7 3770k and an ASUS 1060 6g strix. I’m mostly interested in gaming and streaming and would like to upgrade my system. Should I upgrade gpu or cpu first?

The 1060 is getting a bit outdated - I suggest updating the GPU first.

The CPU is a lot more outdated than the graphics card

Have you tried streaming already? If you enable NVENC and steam off the graphics card you might see some pretty good quality

You can use the nvidia encoder and probably get a decent quality stream. See where that gets you.

do even need to upgrade? what games do you play and which give you the most issues? 

 

and likely a cpu upgrade would make more sense, 1060 is still a good card.

For $500 I would get a new CPU, MOBO, and RAM. Wait for the R5 3600 to come in stock and then get it.
Then, you can snag a used 1070 for around 150 - 200 on ebay

My main interest is streaming and gaming (everything from Valorant to AC Valhalla). 
Should I upgrade? If yes what’s the first thing I should swap out? My budget atm is around 500$ .

And you can also sell your 3770k for $75 or more, because it is as good as an i3-9100f, and there are many people who want to upgrade an older system, and buy a 3770k.

Why not just stick to your orignal post? There is no need to make a new one. Anyway here is the advice I gave earlier -

If you're using OBS it's in your stream settings, just a check box.

 

If you're streaming via Nvidia shadowplay, it's the default streaming method.

depends on the resolution, refresh rate, and games in question. there are a lot of circumstances where the CPU is a little underpowered, but plenty of cases where it's fine.

Well if you're strictly gaming, a ryzen 5 3600 from the used market is a good choice, since they seem to be scarce at the moment on retail sites. Ryzen 5000 supply is expected to materialize a bit in a month or so, and if you're holding out for top tier gaming performance it would be worth it. 

 

But holding on to your i7 for the time being and waiting for better prices/availability is the best move in my opinion. In fact, I also recommend waiting on that graphics card upgrade as well, for the same reason.

budget B450 motherboards are a prime candidate for 3000 series CPUs. 5000 series CPUs will see more widespread support from board partners on 400 series motherboards in early 2021, but for now ASRock has BIOS versions available for the CPUs. Otherwise, some budget A520 motherboards are good choices, if you don't mind cutting CPU overclocking.
