Ryzen 9 5900X - Single core boost issue

I have just got my 5900X and installed and it seems to be working perfectly except when I run Cinebench R20 on singl core mode. The clock speed does not go above 4.2 and it will often show multiple threads being utilised at up to 80% rather than a single thread being used. Whilst I have run Ryzen since gen 2 I have not looked at this aspect in detail before. 

 

Motherboard is Asus Gaming X570 Plus

Memory 2x16 T-Force Dark Pro 3600 CL16

 

Using AI3 I can overclock the all core, I have only tried a small one to test it works and am getting the expected improvement in both all core and single core which suggests to me that I am not single core boosting above the all core boost.

 

Any suggestions of where or what I should be looking at would be appreciated

Well see others Cinebench r20 single core scores and compare it ti yours. if it similar nothing to worry about. It behaves the same with my 3700x

Also make sure you have Precision boost overdirve on and no manual OC like boggy said

I know but that number was pre all core boost, it increase under all core boost (score 586 @ 4.325) which to me suggested that it wasn't single core boosting as expected.

well 586 is very near the right socre for the cpu. Try to enable the PBO and see if it boosts then

560/566 was with no manual overclock PBO active and both Task manager and the Asus monitoring software was showing core clock of 4200

 

578/586 was with manual overclock (4325/1.175v), Task manager shows 4.28 Asus show 4.31

 

The first indication I had was that it changed following a manual overclock but not downward as expected

Would a bios reset to default and reconfigure help? This is not the first CPU used on this board and so may have left fragments of optimization for that unit perhaps?

Seems odd quoting myself but as I had a hard crash playing with overclocks this is what I did and what would you know, 609 single core and 8400 all core. Looks like I had some fragments of previous chip overclocking and playing interfering with getting this sorted.
