What is with the current computer parts pricing?

islingsby

I am just wondering if any of you know of why the computer parts industry as a whole is so high. I recently was going to get a 2060 over a 1660 TI because they are usually only a 30 dollar difference to upgrade my old 960. I ended up going with a Gigabyte 1660 TI for $280 because 2060's are $400+ now. WOW! Cpu's are just as bad. Is this all because of covid?

Would love your guys' macroeconomic thoughts on this.

Supply and demand (and also scalpers but that's mostly confined to the open market rather than retail). Once every one wanted to upgrade to new GPUs, people were buying up whatever they could, that included last gen stuff oddly enough.

Yes, COVID is a massive factor. Also in Canada there's somehow a shortage of both 3000 series Ryzen 5s and also the new Ryzen CPUs so you can't really get either.
