Can single rank (1Rx8) and dual rank (2Rx8) ram be used together ?

Hey. I own an Asus ROG Gl552vx which comes with 8gb 2133mhz single rank CL15 ram. I want to upgrade to 16gb using another 8gb stick. The problem is that an exactly similar stick isn't available. The memory available in the market is 8gb 2133MHZ dual rank CL15.

Can we use single rank and dual rank ram together without it causing any issues ?

And ive had zero issue in the 2+ years ive had my ram like that.
(Slot 2-8 gig stick. Slot 3 and 4, 4 gig sticks)
Ya might have issues with XMP. Maybe. Possibly. Most likely.
Cause i do. But my ram runs at 2666 with and without it.

I have a similar configuration in my laptop, no problems.

1x 2400 single rank built in

1x 2133 dual rank I recycled from my older laptop

Dual channel with this mismatched ram is still much better performance than the single stick was.
