Gaming segment trends over the years

I know there is a gaming section but this covers all of them... how the revenue shares of the categories of gaming changed over time is interesting, as well as looking at where we are today. I'd assume this chart is in US$, but it is unclear to me given how it is written if this is only for US market, or worldwide, or other.

 

Console: seems relatively stable in recent years

PC: general growth, now bigger than console market

Mobile: greater growth, over half of total revenue

PC and consoles are luxury items, but mobile phone is pretty much a necessity nowadays

Compound that with the fact that most average people are very impulsive and not very good with their money, so an easily accessible device that's always with you + impulsive, bad-with-money person = lots of dosh spent on mobile-stuffs.

You kinda almost understand why EA tried the route it did with loot boxes in the past. They must have looked at the low effort mobile games with good monetisation models, and wondered why they're spending all that effort on a AAA title for lower return. Collecting gacha waifus is obviously where the money is at.

The date that matters to me is 1993 and Doom. Before Doom all the computer gamers I knew used Amigas. After Doom they used PCs.

I literally spent $1600 to play a game.

PCs should be government subsidized since those without them are at a disadvantage and that has been made worse by the current situation.

If EA actually put the time and effort into their waifus they probably would have succeeded but instead the gave use Mass Effect Andromeda.

dont u get tax exempt if you buy tech?

i know my country does, you have a certain quota of tax u can reduce by claiming it as electronics purchase or smth

I did when I was a business but I was thinking about poor kids that don't have a laptop or tabletop to study on.

On the local news in my area of the world there is a story at least once a week on this subject.  

 

To do my part by donating at least one PC a year to vocational education classes.
