Adding another NVME if I have only 1 slot

Filingo

My motherboard has only 1 NVME slot (PCIe Gen3 x4) and 1 PCIE 3.0 x16 which the GPU is on already. It has extra 2 PCIes: 1 PCIe 2.0 x16, 1 PCIe 2.0 x1.  Is there a card for any of the remaining PCIes that can act as an NVME extension? And since I only have PCIe 2.0 left, will an NVME be able to use its entire bandwidth / speed?

Yes there are cards for relatively cheap that you can get to connect almost anything via pcie. 99% of them on the market are good, so just get the cheapest one with good reviews off amazon or newegg and you'll be fine, just remember to quickly check that it's compatible in the reviews/questions page.

no, but not all tasks need that much bandwidth anyways

Oh I just realized since NVMEs are 4 lanes I can only use x4 max. and not the entire bandwith of the x16 2.0. Which supports up to 2Gbps? There's no such thing as x4 to x16 magic splitter right? 😅

Pcie lanes can't be converted afaik

So even though you may have 2.0x8, you can't get the same bandwidth to your drive as 3.0x4 because you can only use 4 lanes

There are however x16 cards that split to 4x nvme

Ah I should've ordered the ATX version with 2x PCIe x16

Don't be bummed out, it's still fast anyways, compared to sata

I can still return it and replace. Btw I think 3.0 x16 is capable of 32Gbps which means It can fit like 4 NVME's on an extension card and take use of their full bandwidth 🤯

Yea, that's what I mean by cards that split x16 into x4 nvme

Each nvme gets 4 lanes

awesome. I'll consider replacing the mobo as NVMe/SSD prices are going down
