Can i upgrade to a 3060 ti?

Kuppi

I want to upgrade to a 3060 ti but i'm not sure if i have to upgrade my cpu or my PSU

So, my cpu. I have an i5 9400f at the moment and i play at 1080p. Do i need to upgrade my cpu? I'm pretty sure that i have, but how big of a bottleneck would the i5 create? I could upgrade to an i7 9700 at some point without getting a new motherboard, that should be fine, right?

Second, my psu. I have a corsair RM650. I'm pretty sure that would be fine, but i'm not sure if it's defective.

I was about to upgrade to a gtx 970 a few months ago, but it didn't work properly. The clockspeed dropped to 400MHz under load and GPU-Z showed the perfcap reason as power. With my old gpu, which consumes a lot less power (a gtx 1050 ti) it works fine, even at 100% load with a +100MHz overclock. Was the 970 just broken or is my power supply defective?

I'm no expert but if I were you I would get the 3060ti and I am sure the difference will be noticeable and will bump your graphics up a lot.

I don't think there is a need to upgrade your CPU because that cpu is a good match for this gpu

the 3060 ti will be more power efficient but you should contact corsair and confirm if there is a problem or not. as for the cpu, maybe you should upgrade to a ix xxxxK.
