Looking for a 27'' monitor, and debating 1440p vs 4k monitors at 2020

algosub

Hi!

I upgraded my PC about year ago to a RTX 2080 TI, and now I finally want to upgrade my 1080p 144hz monitor to something more on par with my graphics card :)

I use my monitor for development work on the day to day, so text clarity is pretty important to me, but when I game I both play cinematic single player games like Assassins Creed/Doom/Control, but I also play fast MP games like Apex/PUBG/COD.

So I was really hoping to find a monitor which is:

1. 100hz+ refresh rate

2. HDR 600 (probably will not be able to afford an HDR 1000 monitor)

3. 27 inch (maybe 32, but it's a bit too big for my setup I think)

4. 1440p or 4k monitor (not ultra-wide)

I am basically debating between the following monitors:

1. Samsung Odyssey G7

2. Asus VG27AQ (which I know only has HDR 400)

3. LG 27GN950 (or LG 27GN950-B, but I don't really understand the difference)

I am also open to other good suggestions :)

I am not necessarily looking to max out my budget, and it does feel like 4K gaming is not in a place where I can fully enjoy it in an affordable way, but I am having a really hard time deciding

Would be happy for any recommendation

Thanks!

4k 100+Hz is expensive

4k 100+ FPS is also expensive, combine both and you get super expensive

240fps is kinda not achievable unless competitive titles due to cpu limitation mostly

i had a 240hz panel, and most AAA games i play would be cpu limited around 100~150fps (3900x)

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Yeah, this is why I am taking a phased approach to upgrading 😅, and I am not looking at 200hz+ since I am not a pro-gamer :)

I would recommend against 4k at such a small size, running AAA games at 100+ fps in 4k will be a struggle(DLSS can help) and when sitting at arm distance I don't think you will see much difference in games to 1440p, as to some recommendation:  Samsung G7 or LG 27GN950 would be my choice
