Looking for a stupid cheap laptop Windows 10 device for about £100 or less for video playback.

It's for when I go camping I want something cheap to watch films and episodes of Star Trek on. Needs to have a descent battery life on it, ideally 10 hours but I could just buy another battery and take that along I suppose. Seen a few Lenovo Thinkpads for sale with old i3's and some i7's, how good are they at video playback?

 

Would a Surface 3 be any good as a tablet?

They'll be alright for video playback, but will have no where near 10 hours of battery life. They're most likely nearly dead batteries since they would be used and not refurbished/ reconditioned. 

 

Honestly, a tablet is what you would want. Something like a Galaxy Tab A would fit the bill nicely or even a Amazon Fire HD 10. They'll have nicer screens than any (working) laptop you can get for 100 bucks even used.

Laptop battery life varies a lot depending on the type, and they get much worse as they get older so used ones will probably be past their best already.

 

I'm wondering if a large tablet would be a better option, easier to top up the charge from a battery bank too.

Still not nearly 10 hours. If a ThinkPad is that old to be priced at 100 bucks, it didn't have 10 hours of battery life new. Plus replacement batteries aren't as cheap as people may think. Nor will they work as well since they're probably already a few years old by the time you purchase them.

Does it have to be Windows? Why not Android if you're just watching videos?

Not really sure why you need a Windows laptop for just video playback, but I won't judge lol.

 

 

On my X260, with my 72Wh battery, I get an (estimated, haven't completely depleted it yet) 12+ hours of medium use at medium brightness, and an estimated 5 hours at max brightness full load. Basically just get a Thinkpad and one or two big batteries for it and you'll be golden.

I know Windows, Android and iOS frustrates the shit out of me. The whole mobile touch pad shit irritates me. That and I have the programs I like and don't want to deviate from them.

Sounds good, price is a little steep though. I guess I just have to wait. Technology is expensive even second hand.
