Modern devices have built-in safety features to prevent overcharging. So you can keep laptop plugged in all the time if you want. The battery lifetime will not change significantly as it cirles power between 90% and 100%. For low-battery, you can use Windows/OS own controls to give you warning when charge drops under certain point.
