Internet speed slower on ethernet?

TheJedi

Hey guys.

I just built my new Gaming Rig.

It had a B550 Gaming Carbon WiFi.

When I connected it to ethernet and ran a speed test, I got peak speeds of 180mbps down.

When I connected to WiFi using the onboard WiFi 6 controller, I got speeds of 380mbps.

I ran the test twice, using Ookla's speedtest Windows client.

Anyone know why this is and how it can be fixed?

Do you have the latest Lan drivers installed?

Is the PC connected directly to the router or are there other devices like Switches or Powerline in between?

Yes latest drivers straight from the motherboards download page.

I have a router from my ISP running in modem mode. I use a Netgear Orbi plugged into that via ethernet

weird, but the "speed" may not be accurate as sometimes it might just crap out if u try to go anywhere near it (personal experience)

tried shorter/other cable?

check your router/switch, some ports are rated at different speeds

then you should try reinstalling the latest drivers from motherboard's website

or if you're using expansion card, the latest driver for that

I will, I only installed them 2 days ago. Should I try it from the realtek website instead?

Ok, so I just ran a speed test again before installing the drivers. The Download speed has fixed itself. But the upload is a 12 when it should be somewhere in the 30s? I will try re-installing the drivers and let you know what happens
