I need help with fps in gta 5

blackhawkball21

Hello, I need help with a problem in gta. in gta 5 I will start off playing with about 55-60 fps consistently but within 5-10 minutes I start getting huge lag spikes - down to 30,40, and 50. These lag spikes are constant and make the game close to unplayable. For reference my graphic settings are all on high, not very high or ultra. To try and counter this issue I set a cap on my fps at 30. This worked for a little while but within an hour, i'll start getting more spikes of the game down to 10-15 fps and sometimes lower. This again makes the game really laggy and unplayable almost. It also starts running at about 25 fps consistent with these dips. This only happens in GTA 5 as other games run as expected on these specs.

My specs are -

Motherboard - Gigabyte 990fxa ud3

GPU - Rog Strix 1050 Ti

Cpu - Amd fx 8350

Ram - 2x4 gb ddr3 corsair vengeance (I bought pc used a while ago and I don't know exact specs on ram)

PSU - Corsair CX 750 watt.

Yes, I know these aren't the best specs but based on benchmarks, the recommended specs, and what I have seen I feel like I should be getting better frames and less stuttering. My gpu runs between 30-45 degrees when playing. My cpu always stays at roughly the same temperatures.

I've tried reinstalling the game and changing around settings but it isn't improving

My question is, is there something I can do to improve this or what else could be causing it?

What you are describing here reminds me of what people were saying in reviews when FX8350 launched in 2012. Considering GTA5 will run on anything that has atleast 2 cores and 4 threads, I can suggest monitoring your CPU usage, CPU clocks and CPU temperature in game. AluminiumTech has a good guide here.

Should I post any information from this?

Well if you see CPU usage or anything noticeable happening during when FPS is low, it might identify if CPU is the problem. Let us know if you think you need further information.

Are you playing GTA Online or GTA 5 Story?

RAM usage, VRAM usage, and CPU usage would be helpful.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.
