Buying a server, need some advice

Hi, I am considering buying the used server of someone with these specs for 550$ canadian.  First of all, is it a good deal or am I paying too much.  Also the main use of the server would be minecraft and other game servers for me and my friends, running and running a mail server in the background.

Is this server too much lood or can I put it in a storage room and don't hear it in my home?

Dell EMC R610 Server

2x Intel Xeon X5675 3.07Ghz (12 Cores)

96GB DDR3 RAM

PERC H700 Integrated RAID Controller,

256MB Cache 6x 600GB 10k SAS HDDs

4-Port GB Ethernet Controller

iDRAC6 Enterprise, integrated Dell Remote Access Controller

Dual Redundant 717W Power Supplies VMWare 6.5

I got a $10000 server for $4 due to a pricing error once.

550 cad seems way to high for that server.

For game server, most are single threaded, id get something newer like a newer intel core cpu or ryzen chip.

If you want a used server, id aim for a r620 or r720 atleast. There not much more money, and a good amount faster.

for home server it is too much.

too much noise, too much power draw for a low performing parts (compared to recent parts).

better just build a 4 faster core i3 or Ryzen 3.

Ryzen 2600 @ 4ghz | Radeon RX580 | 32gb HyperX 3200mhz | 500gb Samsung PM981a | 5 TB HDD | Corsair CX450

Thank you for the help, indeed I have found a r620 for cheaper that what I was looking for.

So I just transitioned from a HP Box that had 2x Intel Xeon L5520 CPUs, these are 4C/8T CPUs.

I moved over to a Ryzen 3200G, so one of the cheaper/lower end Ryzen APUs, it's more energy efficient and way more powerful.

I would suggest that you look at building a system yourself, as you'll find a lot of the older servers online will consume a decent amount of power.

That being said, it's not a bad place to start... ! (avoid boxes with 4x CPUs, power hungry mofos!)

I think it was sarcasm...

No it actually worked, it was from CDW. The rest of the server hardware is super expensive though so it just sits unused.
