How Much Wattage For Overclocking?

I currently have a full built system that I am doing some minor overclocking on. Since this is my first build (as well as first time even looking at overclocking) I wanted to go ahead and check the estimated wattage for the first time in PC Part Picker. Should I replace the current 850W power supply with something more substantial?

I think a 1000 watt would be a very worthy investment. some will disagree

haha, $6000 for 10900k. You should've ask this forum before building this.

 

Anyway, you can overclock it with that PSU.

At most the system will need like 600w max for stock, you add 10-20% more if you want a slight overclock.

no, It won't be, rtx 3080 is 350-400w, i9 10900k is like another 300w completely maxed out, so 750 is completely fine, let alone the 850w that the OP has.

Ahh - I had heard on the LTT channel that Intel was still above AMD in gaming performance when I purchased that.

Recent release of Nvidia cards have scary peak current draws, 750 is hardly fine especially with overclocking in mind. I wont hesitate to go 1200w when the whole system is nearly $7000 tho

Yes, if you want the best 5950x.

- You don't need 64gb memory, 32 is enough. It puzzled me why the non RGB model is more expensive than the RGB.

- A measly 1 TB HDD, when you should be getting a 4 TB or larger.

- $350 for 7 fans, is this a vacuum cleaner? you should spend this for the HDD or maybe 2TB SSD. Or a better motherboard. Fans wont make your pc run faster. Heck you can build a custom watercooling with this.

- PSU, i would get corsair RM850 instead of that.

850w is more than enough,  maxed out the 10900k draws around 300w and maxed out 3080 draws 400w maxed out (normally at 350 or below) that leaves another 100w for the rest of the system, he already has the system, and im sure it works fine.

 

no point in buying a 1200w psu if you're never gonna use it.

Better pcb quality, power delivery and features.

For overclocking it's crucial especially the power delivery.

$199 is a mid end for another $100 you can get a high end one.

that's not a good refutation. I said "peak power draw", not average power draw. The peaks are what trips OCP in PSUs, and the RTX 3080 can go as high as 750W (Furmark extreme case) and typically in the 450w level.

650w psu's of the same quality level were passing, im 99% sure this system will run fine for years, probably until the psu itself goes bad, it's not like your edging it with a 650w.

That's with a 9900k, not 10900k. I dont buy the idea of buying a PSU that's just enough either

it was drawing near 300w in the test, same as a maxed out 10900k give or take 15w
