Adding cellular capabilities to a desktop or laptop

so here is the project, I want to do the the stuff on a computer that a cellphone can do, like make calls and send text messages and access the internet over the 4G LTE network

lets face it, today's cellphones are just crappy hand-held computers with mobile networking capabilities. overpriced junk is what's being sold to the mindless millennial's, with stupid apps and games.

It's not the hardware that i think will limit you, it's the software.  How do you actually plan on sending the text messages or making calls?  Unless you are custom writing some phone-emulator program, you may as well just tether your phone to your computer.

Those anetennas might be a issue cause there for wifi, not cellular.

 

What carrier? THose cards are often specific to one or two carriers.

 

Why not just get an external modem? Like the ones from netgearhttps://www.netgear.com/home/products/mobile-broadband/lte-modems/LB1120.aspx

But there's no software to make calls or text over cellular for Windows, you'd just get data which these laptops already have.

If you're looking for software, I do use Dell mobile connect to sync and respond to everything on my phone. Also some carriers like T-Mobile have software to make calls and sms on the computer

If your gonna do this, Id just get a data only cellular plan, and then get a voip soluiton for calling, and a simmilar solution for texting. Then you only have to deal with IP packets. 

 

But there are lots of laptops with cellular build in(look at business grade laptop), and external modems for desktops.

i need voice over LTE, VoLTE, and that chip has 3 antennas, AUX, MAIN, GPS i assume that the aux is how it sends the voice

Not sure any have VoLTE or voice in general because at that point you can use VoIP or just use a phone, much easier.

Its a little misleading as it says Windows 10 in the requirements but pretty sure they mean Windows 10 Mobile, as in the phone OS.

The Sierra software for that modem does do that.

 

Aircards have been in laptops for years, most people just go for a USB option to plug it into their computer/laptop.
