I do not know about the current quality of Western Digital but in my experience over the years they have always been better than Seagate. YMMV

Completely depends on the drive you're picking.

 

Barracudas are fucking terrible, don't buy them. My 4TB was DOA, my two 1TB died in just a few months, and I know several people who have also had many problems with Seagate drives. I've heard their high(er)-end drives are better, but I have no experience with them. Meanwhile, my cheap little WD Blue has been happily chugging along for years now with no problems whatsoever.

 

Also, before I get flamed by Seagate fanboys, this is just my experience and what I've heard from others.

lol my WD Green that's been in service since like... 2007. Was abused as my boot drive for the majority of its life thus far.

The oldest one I have is a WD Blue from 2011. Literally almost 8 years on the clock according to CrystalDiskInfo lol.
