Looking for a case for 20+ Harddrives

theskaz

I have a custom watercooled 3990x threadripper with 3 gpus all with watercooling blocks.

I have a 240 and a 560mm rad.

I have 10x 16TB 3.5" drives

I have 10x 2.5" ssds.

I am looking for a case that will fit all of that. Any suggestions that arent dated?

Honestly, I would just look for a external HDD cage, I doubt there's any consumer cases that support 20+ drive and those rad's

I might have to get different rads, but i would love to have a full tower or super tower

you can still get one and they will house some of the drives, but to house all 20 of them would require a server case.

best to go with an external enclosure imo

ok, I started researching external enclosures. googling DAS and SAS enclosures. I keep coming across Dell MD1200 and MD1220. I have 10 Seagate 16Tb EXOS Enterprise drives and cannot tell if they will work.  the MD1220 I would like to put a bunch of different SSDs in.

Anyone have any experience or info on these? or another enclosure that will work? I am ok with rackmount enclosures for the drives, but want it minimal as the server will be running Unraid and I dont want RAID controllers or multipliers (if possible)

  • 2 weeks later...

got my hands on a 847E16-RJBOD1 from supermicro. it holds 45 drives and I got 2.5 to 3.5 hotswap adapters for the SSDs.
