Gtx 1080 - 1080p 240hz, or 1440p 165hz

Hi all, thanks for reading this,

I am looking for a new monitor but am stuck whether to go for a 1440p 165hz or a 1080p 240hz, reason being I've got a gtx 1080, which is still a great card, but might struggle hitting higher frames at 1440p with all the new games coming out, the issue is, I don't plan or want to upgrade my gpu for the next couple of years, (im 16, a new gpu in Australia is quite expensive, I'd rather buy a car). Would a 25 inch, IPS 1080ps 240hz monitor still look nice for single player games, or should I get the 1440p monitor and eventually sell my kidneys to upgrade my pc? Excuse my sarcasm this is an honest question :)

Thanks for your help,

Nick.

depends on the game you play

i owned a 240hz 1080p, most games wont run at that fps, unless competitive games, due to CPU limitation (i have a 3900x)

now i have a 1440p 144hz monitor and it's much better, visually, and smoothness is still fine, tbh

i recommend 1440p 165hz, it's more versatile, and smoothness isnt too different

but 1080p 240hz if you're into competitive games.

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

I prefer my 1080p 240hz. Frame loss at 1440 was too much for me as well as trying to adapt muscle memory and mouse settings for the larger rez. Only really proffered it for one game. My 1080 still got me 200 frames which is worlds apart from using my 144hz 1400p.

I only play fps games and always at the top of the board. So if you are an eye candy player, go 1440.
