Asus ROG STRIX X99 Not booting

R3play

Hey all,

After pressing the power switch on my machine today I noticed that it didn't want to boot up.
After some further inspection I noticed the B1 error code on my motherboard.
Some googling later I found out that this has something to do with my RAM, decided to pull all the RAM out and start with 1 stick as recommended in the user manual, no result... Did that with the other 3 sticks I had and still the same error code.
When I start it up without any RAM sticks installed, it gives me the error code that there is no RAM installed, so that works I guess?

Given I have 4 sticks, it would be very unlikely that all 4 suddenly stopped working.
Also tried updating the BIOS via a USB drive, but that also didn't solve the problem...

I have no idea what else I could do..
Besides that the motherboard might be broken.

Anyone else had this issue or has a possible solution?

Thanks in advance!

Has the machine been jostled? As mentioned above you can try reseating the CPU. Trying a different PSU and resetting CMOS are also possible solutions.

B1 = Runtime Set Virtual Address MAP End

Would pull 2 sticks, run in A2 and B2 slots for testing. Full clear cmos before post.

For others, system specs are as follows.

    Intel i7 6800K
  • Motherboard
    Asus STRIX x99

Impossible to do at the moment since I don't have any thermal paste in house

Machine has not beed jostled, stayed put where it has always been.
Already cleared CMOS aswell, no result.
Different PSU sadly not possible since I have no other...

Pulled 2 sticks and ran them in A2 and B2, gave me error code 53.
Placed them then in A1 and B1 and got the B1 error code..

And sorry for not placing the specs down, forgot that.

Code 53 is memory initialization error.

Now try 1 stick at a time, I believe slot A1 and test each stick. Read the manual real quick for single stick operation just to be sure.

As said in my original post, I've already done this with the same result.

For my sanity I did it again and I'm still getting B1 error code.

I'd suggest to try a different cpu, but if none available, maybe re-seat the 6800K and check for any burnt pads while it's out.

Ordered myself 2 new RAM sticks wich are on the list of supported memory, but still getting the same issue.

I'll get myself some thermal paste and re-seat the CPU as a last resort (also will check for any possible burned pads)..
And if that's all clear and I'm still getting the same issue, then I'm thinking of sending the MB back to Asus for repair.. and if that also doesn't fix it..... Then it will be a new MB and CPU

Sounds like a plan.

Would it be safe to say that it is a CPU/MB related issue?
The DRAM LED on the MB also stays lit continiously when I power on the PC..

If I'm 100% sure that the issue will be fixed with buying a new CPU and MB, I'm thinking to just go that route then..

It's hard to say without other hardware to test with. Probably more likely the board than the cpu is the issue. IMO
