AMD says that there will be AIB cards at MSRP in 4 to 8 weeks. So I guess if you plan on getting an AIB RX 6800/6800 XT, wait a few weeks (unless you want to be charged an extreme premium).

What a dumb short term strategy. Especially on AMD's part as they should be working hard on building the ecosystem of their own with feature sets that would set even stronger competition on software side as well as pull in new buyers. Cryptominers don't care about any of that, they just care what gives them the most virtual money for least cost in graphic card. Lets just say if you're a determined graphic cards maker, it's a very bad strategy. If you want to just quickly milk it and then sink the company, it's a great way. I just don't know why either AMD or NVIDIA would do that.

NVDIA is for sure, limiting the supply means higher prices which the AIBs need. AMD I really doubt it.

AMD just has limited fab sapce, they've got to get 8-9k zen3 EPYC chips (8 full dies each) out and are overall trying to get 1 million zen3 chips out before 2021

AMD said specifically they weren't sending any cards to Microcenter or any physical retail locations. They are discouraging people from going to physical stores because of covid.

They're only sending to digital retailers.

From a global perspective this thread's title and content is massive clickbait and is misleading.

Whenever a time range is given, always safest to assume the far end, if this even happens at all. So that'll put it at the end of January. See if it goes anywhere then.

Then I guess this is just more bs from Frank Azor.

I would have to assume yes, his track record as of late is not great. I'd advise simply ignoring him.

Yes, just like they said there would be plenty of cards on the launch date...

At this point only a fool would believe anything AMD says. Just wait and see how things go. Don't expect to be able to buy any cards for the foreseeable future.

I called a couple of shops in the local tech mall last Wednesday, was told that there was no news, let alone stock of AIB cards. The local distributers had not bothered at all to try to bring in AMD branded cards.

I called again on Thursday and was told there were a handful, but reserved for those buying as a bundle or part of a system build. I got ticked off and went down on Friday, and Lo and behold, there was one Sapphire Nitro+ RX 6800, though I'd wanted the XT, was told it was sold off earlier that day, and the next shipment may be around later December or early January, 2021.

I had no choice, so I went for the Nitro+ RX 6800. Damn nice card, now I can play Metro Exodus in DX12, with ray tracing enabled @ 3840x1080...game looks pretty good! I also played Serious Sam 4 maxed out, netted higher frame rate compared to my Vega64 even though the Vega64 was at lower in-game setting.
