stock i7 10700k running 90+ in some games.

I recently built a new computer in prep for cyberpunk and I have noticed some scary high temps while gaming. 

I have a Deepcool Castle 240EX cooler installed at the top of my case as exhaust. In one game of R6 Siege I have seen cores reach as high as 97C. 

I have already pulled the cooler off and applied some better paste. Cmos reset to defaults (XMP is the only change). I tried running it with no side panel, but temps were the same. 

At idle the computer is fine, but with certain games that hit the cpu I am seeing temps that I am just not comfortable with. 

Only thing I can think of is that I see it pulling 1.35 vcore at random which seems pretty high for a stock chip.

weel that is kinda high, also make sure u installed the cooler tightly, try using anotehr cooler to see if it fixes the problem, also make sure your cpu isnt boostclocking the hell outa the cores

undervolting? adjusted fan curve? I don't know how good that AIO is but maybe you could look for a better air cooler instead like a Noctua. But otherthan that, my CPU too gets hit hard from R6

Voltages and power look fine as far as I can tell, so either there's something borked with the AIO itself, your fan/pump speeds are as low as they can get or the fans on your radiator don't have any fresh, cool air to breathe in.

I pulled it off and put new better paste on and tightened it down firmly to make sure it had even solid contact. I dont have another cooler lying around that will work for this chip. My BIOS is all at default. Would normal turbo fuck me like this?

Are you using MCE?

 

1.35 is a bit much for a 240mm AIO

 

My i9 9900k is at 5ghz all cores with 1.27v. I uss a Noctua nh-d15 with one fan.

The cpu fans are working fine. The pump seems to be working fine as with regular use its staying nice at cool. And like I said. I tried it with no side panel and the temps are the exact same.

MCE? I have reset the BIOS to default everything other than XMP so I can use my ram correctly.

Multicore Enhancement is default on some motherboards.

It was not on my Hero XII board(LGA 1200) but that is a first for me since 2016 on an ASUS "Z" board.

 

If you have not set 1.35v your motherboard did and that is a bit too much for your cooling.

 

I originally got a Dark Rock Pro 4 that is rated at 250 watts for my i9 10900k build but after about 5 minutes of use I ordered a 360mm AIO.

I was getting numbers like yours.

Yeah... I think a bigger case and a 360mm is in order. Just need to find one that works for me. What case did you get your for your 360? Is it top or front mounted?

I use a Cooler Master H500M.  I have the 360mm top mounted and used is video as a guid.

They are on sale now and I may buy another for my i9 9900k when it gets off the test bench.

Three intake at the front. One exhaust at the back. Radiator exhausts out the top. Front flow isnt amazing because of the glass, but even with the side panel off the case it still runs the same temps. I think that this chip just needs more cooling than this little 240 rad can handle. My last chip was a 7700k and a 240 was more than enough so I think I just didnt look into it enough.

sometimes the dam cpu gets a mssed up turbo, for example linus once set the cpu to 5ghz turbo, and it turbo to 5.3ghz, so try overclocking to the base speed from factory, or try going 0.1ghz down

You are saying I should set a stock clock speeds myself instead of letting it boost on its own? Idk if this cooler can handle 4.8ghz constant lol

no i mean base speed, go like 0.5 ghz down from base, and slowly go up

I have it running at 4.8 locked. 1.28 volts. Temps are fine for the most part. Only hits high 80s in certain loads. This is acceptable until I get the new cooler in.

if its locked try and get a unlocked to experiment this, like if you have a friend with a i7 or some crap, and u can borrow, EXAMPLE

its a K series chip, but I locked the voltage to prevent it from spiking to 1.35 vcore randomly. Im limited thermally at the moment so I cant actually apply any overclock at the moment.

oh i thought clocks, then try the underclocking technic, i think then test it in some casual game, see if the temps same, then try the hardcore temp eating game, then see the temps, if its better, try and down the volts

Since im using fixed vcore if I go under 1.27 itll crash. If I change off a fixed vcore the spikes are crazy and the temps go too high as well.

If I lock it to anything less than 1.27 I crash under load.
