How can I download a bit for bit identical copy of a Youtube video?

Hey everyone

 

There is a channel on Youtube which contains a video that is very important to me. I would like to download it without any type of conversion as this degrades the quality. It should be an exact copy of the original file is being played when you open the video on Youtube. How can I do this?

Could you maybe email the channel, explain why the video is important to you and why you need a copy of it and ask them if they could send it to you? It is their property after all.

I don't believe it's possible to download the exact same file.

In real life, I act like I know less about tech than I actually do.

As everyone else have already said, use Youtube-dl.

It does download bit for bit exact copies of the video. Just make sure you select the correct version of the video, as most videos has multiple copies (like 480p, 720p, 1080p, as well as multiple different file formats such as VP9 and AVC)

 

If you want a program with a GUI then get youtube-dl-gui.
