Windows 10 doesn't speak Zip Drive or Zip Drive is dead?

WhitetailAni

Back at it again with more weird tech issues!

I wonder when I won't have one once a month.

ANYWAY.

I have a 250MB Zip Drive. Currently installed in my (non-Pentium III) tower.

Connected it + CD/DVD optical drive to a PCIe IDE/SATA controller card. I have a Blu-Ray drive connected to it as well via SATA.

My Zip Drive doesn't work.

I know it isn't the card, because my two optical drives work fine.

I have a 250MB disk in it because I can't eject it. When the tower starts up, the green light blinks, then it stops, Windows 10 boots.

I go to File Explorer.

I don't see it. So I enable "See hidden files and folders" or whatever it is.

Then I see "Removable Disk (B:)". Note that I set it to B:, but it didn't work when it was Q: either.

So I click on it.

File Explorer freezes up. I use Task Manager and close it, and Windows 10 goes black with some green lines - it's still running though (I set some music to play and it kept playing after the screen went black).

Resetting it fixes it, and it has no ill effects.

Task Manager sees the Zip Drive as an HDD.

Disk Management sees the ZIp Drive as "Removable Disk (B:) but no partitions, similar to my two optical drives.

I can't do anything with it in File Explorer or it freezes. It never unfreezes - I left it overnight. Disk Management can see it, and it doesn't report any errors.

So any ideas?
Is Windows seeing it as a floppy drive and then, Windows 10 being Windows 10, not knowing what to do?
I would like my drive to work.

EDIT:
The BIOS sees it as a bootable device.

The question is does it work with the pentium machine?

You really can't rely on those old devices, it should break by now.

I have stacks of old dead floppy drive, they don't last long, i assume the same for zip, since it uses the same mechanism.

The most important thing, does the driver work in windows 10?

You can try use it in older OS like windows xp via vmware / virtualbox.

I tried running it in a virtual machine running 98 and it still didn't work.

Once I have my new parts I will test it in my Pentium III machine.
