32K Video Possible In 2020/21? Filming and Editing?

With the new releases of Blackmagic products we can make 32K HDR VIDEO!! How? With the Release of DaVinci Resolve 17, the studio version supports upto 32K and 120 FPS with HDR. Part 1: Filming the 32K Footage. Attached File shows how the camera can be placed. 3 Blackmagic 12K Cameras are requried with a proper rig to hold the three together and Smae focal length with synced focus.Part 2: Editing/ Combining 3X12K to 32K footage: After the footages from the 3 Cameras are ingested into a highly Compute System and in DaVinci Resolve we can merge the footage and 32K!!

1.Print to IMAX 1570mm Reels

2.Wait for 32K TVs or Moniters in future

I'd say it is extremely overkill, ridiculous, and not practical but knowing Linus they would make a video on it. I think most people would just use an IMAX camera at that point

People may ask “Why would anyone ever need 32K footage?”. 


The answer isn’t so you can play it back at 32K on a TV, it’s about the freedom it gives film editors to crop, zoom and do other sorts of effects without having perceptible quality loss on say a 4 or 8K display. It would also lessen the reliance on carrying around and switching out telescopic lenses.

But even then 16K would likely be the better and 8K will not be widely adopted  so 12K is fine.

A few flaws here:

1. the way you've placed the sensors side by side looks more like the cameras are rotated 90 degrees (portrait orientation instead of the normal landscape orientation of sensors), so at max you are getting 19K image if you measure by the horizontal dimension.  19440 x 12288 sensor.

2. If you meant to put the sensors side by side in a landscape format you are getting a very wide format 36K (36684 x 6480) which is a 50:9 image.  It just increases horizontal view without increasing vertical view.  Projecting that kind of wide screen image onto even the largest imax screen, you will still have black bars top and bottom if the image uses the full width of the screen.  The world's largest imax screen is 117.2ft x 97ft according to Wikipedia, which is just barely a 11:9 ratio image.

 

You would need 9 cameras, not 3, to get a 36K standard where both horizontal and vertical view is increased proportionally.

yeah what would i know about cameras or cinematography compared to you tech people.  i've only done this work for nearly 20 years, won a few awards, worked in over a dozen different countries and a few multi million dollar projects
