Monitor question

Entropy.

Hullo,
I just wanted to ask a quick question about monitors. I've been searching around for a 32' monitor for general usage- content consumption, creation, work, perhaps some gaming. I don't know what resolution monitor to go with- 1440p or 4k? Since I don't have an insane budget ($350-ish) , If I go 4k it'll be 60hz or 75hz. If I go 1440p I can go 144hz+. What general PPI should I be going for? What do you guys suggest?

I am NOT a professional and a lot of the time what I'm saying is based on limited knowledge and experience. I'm going to be incorrect at times.

If you absolutely desire the frame rates over the quality and aesthetics, go 1440p. If you’re in need of absolute pixel perfection go for the 4K. It’s really up to you to balance it’s gaming and content creation usages. I’d say 1440p but in the end it’s your money

PPI is kind of down to personal preference. I, for example, wouldn't touch a monitor over 24" at 1080p. The 32" 1440p monitor has the same PPI, but I feel since it's larger I'd still write it off. I'd want more, if I'm getting something that large. If you're not gaming much (didn't seem high on your list of priorities) I'd probably go with the 4k version.

Have you considered an ultrawide? If you extend your budget a bit you can get a nice 34" 1440p monitor.

Correct. Which is just a wider 24" monitor with more horizontal pixels. It's no different.

PPI just depends on size and resolution.

Since you already know you want 32" then the only thing that matters is 1440p or 4k, thinking about PPI is redundant.

I would get 4k because I personally do more work than gaming.

If you game a lot then maybe get 1440p 120/144hz, if you can find that in that budget.

I have. There are some actually at Costco at 1440p. It just seems disappointing that you have to pay so much and sacrifice so much to get an extra two inches and a different screen ratio.

I do game a considerable amount. I've been looking around for some decent monitor, and I stumbled across the dell S3220DGF (https://www.bestbuy.com/site/dell-32-led-curved-qhd-freesync-monitor-with-hdr-displayport-hdmi-usb/6375331.p?skuId=6375331) on sale a little while ago for a touch over $300. What do you think of it?

What exactly are you sacrificing? They're much more useful than a 16:9 monitor.

But you have many, many more pixels on the horizontal axis.

Well, you could get a 32" 16:9 display and have the same width but more vertical realestate.

You get the same size 21:9 while 16:9 content is larger.

And since 99.999% of content is 16:9, makes sense to have the majority of stuff larger.

You don't get more vertical real estate, you just get larger content.

IMO the trade off of losing the horizontal real estate simply isn't worth it.
