B550 motherboard has extra 4 pin cpu connector.

My b550 motherboard i purchased for my build has a total of 12 connector for the cpu, 8+4 pin. However, I don't seem to have a 4 pin CPU connector. How do I go about connecting this? My PSU is a Corsair RM850x V2 PSU and it comes with 2x 8pin CPU connector. Do I have to go out and try buy just a 4 pin connector or something?

The 8 pin EPS cables should split down the middle just like an 8 pin PCIe (6+2) cable splits

 

What CPU?  Massive overclocking?  If you oddly dont have a EPS cable that can split then just use 1 8 pin.

You can break apart one of the 8 pin EPS cables into a 4+4 pin EPS cable and connect it that way.

Except for LN2 overclocking you don't need the 4 pin connector.

The 8-pin EPS connector should split into a 4+4, so that you can plug it in.

That being said, the extra 4-pin is redundant for AM4 on ambient cooling.

I will be using the 5600x, upon further inspection it seems that one of the 8 pin cpu cables can split into 2x 4 pin. Do i just split and use that and it will work fine? I could just forego the extra 4 pin but i just like the aesthetics of having everything connected.

Connect everything (I would) and do it exactly as you describe 1 8 pin, 1 4 pin and be done with it :)

If anyone finds this like I did Google - ing the answer if you have the extra 4 pin use it. I have a 5600x and rtx 3090 the extra 4 pin helped stability of the system specifically with flickering when benchmarking pcie 4.0 as nvidia 30 series cards pull beyond what is rated for pcie power system is far more stable and I no longer have crashing issues with extremely demanding games
