What keyboard do you game on, and have you considered going wireless? Why or why not?

I used a free wireless keyboard for a while, it was pretty rough.

 

It was a sort of broken logitech one, and the wireless would disconnect every few minutes for up to 30 seconds. It was a bit rough lol.

 

I now use a $20 knock-off mechanical keyboard, but it works well enough so I'm happy

Rant on the K350 - I bought this board in 2014.  Overall I love the feeling and ergonomics.  BUT Logitech refuses to update the software.  Youre still stuck with their old 'setpoint Mouse & Keyboard Settings' controls (rather then the newer Logitech Options), which has literally had the same bugs since I got the keyboard with no fixes.  Most notably it automatically puts back the 'included' shortcuts for Microsoft Word/Excel after every reboot.

 

That said for 6.5 years, it still works great.  My 0 numpad key cracked a bit inside (stuck a small piece of rubber band inside and it registers fine).  And as for the stickers, the only labels that have worn out for me after all this time is ASDE and C.

I used to but I don't use wireless peripherals any more. The batterys keep dying at the worst possible times. It's frustraiting as hell. Especially if you don't have any spares handy. So i stick with wired peripherals.

And what's Linus' problem with the ISO Enter key? It's much easier to hit than the actually much more narrow ANSI key.

I only use wireless keyboards and mice (the ergo Logitech stuff, specifically)....but I'm also not trying to play esports games competitively.

 

That said, even if I were, I'd probably use the same input devices. Not having wires and reducing my RSI is worth the imperceptible performance hit at my skill level anyway.

Not $30 cheap, but I have been using the Logitech K800 for many years... until it broke. So much for that "legendary" quality.

 

Why did I buy it then? Primarily because I also use a Logitech trackball, and the USB dongle did double duty allowing both keyboard and pointer to work with the same wireless receiver - handy if you don't quite have enough USB ports to plug into. I also liked it because it had a dedicated calculator key and a handy on/off switch so I could avoid unwanted key presses. My setup is somewhat cramped so I do end up placing things on my keyboard at times.

 

Truth be told, I was getting hard on my keyboard with gaming these last few years since I don't have a dedicated controller or game pad. Unfortunately the key caps on the K800 are held in place with very weak plastic that if you are not careful do break off. The switches are also the cheap membrane type that did end up becoming flaky on mine, to the point that the key cap did break off and was unable to be fixed.

 

And so came the search for a more robust mechanical affair. I looked at EVERYTHING - long and hard to find something that could do what I needed. I ended up with a Corsair K95 platinum in the gunmetal finish, replacing the keycaps with a set of their black and white PBT options for a very sexy two-tone look. Then I got maybe 200 or so of those clear silicone o-rings placed 2-3 per key to quite down the clacky typing noise and improve the typing feel. Finishing off the swap I just recently got their iCue Nexus touch panel bar mounted at the top of the keyboard to display some basic stats and a shortcut to some often-used Windows tools (notepad and calculator).

 

This setup came out pretty damn expensive ($200/keyboard, $50 each for the black and white key cap set, $20 o-rings, $100 iCue Nexus) but I will also say that I have yet to bash away on a keyboard this good looking, customizable, rugged and reliable. The MX silver switches hold up incredibly well, the two tone layout harkans back to the classic PC days and the LCD adds some serious functionality. Cleaning is easy too since I can pull any key cap off with the included key cap puller and get to the crud underneath. I was even able to reconfigure the Windows lock button to lock the entire keyboard.

 

My only gripe really has to be with the limitations of the Corsair software - it is so poorly optimized with stuff that should be there missing and things that could definitely be improved. They do have a very active forum, but whether they actually listen to user input there is debatable. I've given them MY TWO CENTS in the past (yes you George) and they just didn't care.

 

Now if they could make the switches replaceable and let you swap those out as well... Keep on dreaming LOL
