If you chose ”share analytics data” this is what it will do. If you chose ”no” it won’t. 

From my understanding, it does it regardless. A tool was made to block this, and with the latest OS release, Apple went out of its way to block such application from working.

The difference is that you do know Discord is doing this while you don't know that macOS is. In fact, you trust macOS to do the opposite, since it's the software running the entire show.

 

Discord is just an app. We know it's not private. macOS meanwhile is the entire operating system. Discord doesn't know what apps you're running or how long it's open unless it's a game or you tell it to recognize this app. macOS does, and it reports this back to Apple, even if you tell it not to. That's what the difference is.

Possible there's some other fun DNS trickery they're doing, but none that I've been able to determine.  Basically it means: nothing can "reach out" to oscp.apple.com if there's no name resolution for said.  UNLESS the code doing the reaching out isn't using the system's gethostbyname() call, but rather grabbing the A record off an internally-coded DNS server.

 

Basically what I'm saying is: I think the guy that supposedly captured this then blogged about it doesn't know what he's talking about.  Or he's full of shit.

To top it off most of the times linux itself isnt even at fault, like when this particular company put the SATA controller into a special mode that the linux drivers doesnt know about......

I wonder how far this goes back? Is this present in Catalina? Mojave? High Sierra?

 

Was this spy shit added in Big Sur as a feature, a feature they're gonna call a "bug", or to track analytics for betas? If so, does Catalina and Mojave betas have the same call home feature? I'd also assume maybe iOS betas would have this?

 

I'd like to see this expanded on, this is an interesting topic. A lot of this seems very preliminary. Apple shouldn't say they're privacy focused and force other developers to give detailed reports on tracking when they can't do it themselves.

for that to happen, we need some people in congress who know wtf they are talking about with technology and online privacy, the same people that are making laws about electronics and the internet are the same people who go to their children for help with the internet

Oh my god... the amount of ignorance, melodramatics and unwavering belief in a random blog post here is astounding. Holy shit.

 

This is GateKeeper, an anti-malware service that runs on Mac and has been doing so, known to pretty much everyone, for a LONG time. This isn’t some kind of conspiracy revelation, Jesus Christ.

 

It sends a hash and checks against a database to make sure the program has a trusted certificate still in good standing with Apple. You know, so they can block rogue developers from updating code to deploy malware. THIS IS A GOOD THING. It’s literally designed to protect you and your data, contrary to the agenda being pushed by the massively misinformed here...

 

This (very minimal) data isn’t being forwarded to the US government as OP suggests and isn’t being sold or given to anyone as per Apple’s privacy policy.

 

This thread needs to be taken down or locked, it’s wildly incorrect.
