My friend's motherboard died

His asrock m-atx b450 board croaked and he runs a 2000 series cpu, if he gets a b550 board will they work together?

Warranty expired

B550 motherboards DO NOT have BIOS support for Ryzen 2000-series and older.

Only for Ryzen 3000-series and 5000-series.

Check the CPU support list on any B550 motherboard.

damb im dumb, odd not to include bios support for past generations i know its different chipset, but that seems odd especially since x570 supports second gen

b550 do not support ryzne 2000. get a decent b450 board like b450 pro 4 / tomahawk max etc, no need to bios update. and they probably support ryzen 5000 aster january.

Motherboard tier list. Tier A for overclocking 5950x. Tier B for overclocking 5900x, Tier C for overclocking 5800X. Tier D for overclocking 5600X. Tier F for 4/6 core Cpus at stock. Tier E avoid.

(Also case airflow matter or if you are using Downcraft air cooler)

( You can overclock Tier C just fine, but it can get very loud, that is why it is not recommended for overclocking, same with tier D)
