Is it just me or are braided cables... terrible?

Bit of a moan here... I've just noticed that every single peripheral I've ever owned (granted, only like 3) with braided cables, have always ended up fraying or kinking and looking awful after a year... also all my gamer friends... all their braided cables have worn out and look terrible too. Not talking cheap stuff either, top end Logitech, Razor mice etc...

 

Braided cables and such are sold as a premium feature but they always end up looking worse than regular non-braided cable. Except for internal braided cables in PC's of course.

 

Anyone else noticed this or maybe I'm just too abusive to my peripherals? (they have travelled around to a few LAN parties).

Depends, I get why people may not like braided mice, especially if it grinds on a desk or anything. I like braided cords on chargers, they are wayyy better than a lot of other chargers (especially Apples imo, some USB cables non-braided are fine though)

Oh razr and logitech use some real shitty braiding stuff. My dad has a 20 something year old pair o headphones with a braided cable and that thing has been used abused tortured and whatnot and the cable all be it looking very worn is still holding on.

 

I much prefer a regular cable over shitty braided ones. I am super carefull with my stuff and my logitech g502 cable was torn to shreds in places that would never even move so I just removed it and it's been a much better experience.

Braided cables in my possession look perfect after years of daily use (headphones).  My stepson tears his apart.

Interesting, that's the exact mouse I'm using too, and it's also ruined!

Maybe it's just the surfaces you use it on?  But also it could be that you are harsh. My brother has an old Naga that despite not completely functioning (MMO buttons do not always work) properly has been well used and abused, travelled the world, and the cable has not frayed. 

 

I have not had a braided cable fray issue either even with cheaper mice, probably 6+ wired mice over the past several years.

Might be my desk, it's not got a super harsh edge but its a relatively thin glass desk.

Braided cables are garbage have no place on periphirals in my opinion. 

 

And on mice braided cables (not to be confused with paracrod) are far worse than most rubber cables due to them having way more friction and being way stiffer.

The one on my mouse is just fine.... but I have it secured with velcro at the top of the desk so that when I am pulling it towards myself I don't feel the weight of the cable since all the cable I need is already at the top of the desk.
I guess this has the added effect of making sure the cable isn't being dragged across the corner of the desk.


PS:
I am looking for a new keyboard... hopefully with braided cable.. but that isn't required.  hahaha

You are not alone! My 4 years old G502 braids snapped one year into its use because I accidentally flung it across the sharp edge of my keyboard. been held together by electrical tape ever since. Great mouse though. Keeps going strong still.
