Does the intel performance maximizer still kill cpu's and is does it give free performance?

It's been about a year now since it released and i was wondering if it has gotten better since last year.

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/docs/processors/core/performance-maximizer.html

Does this software still kill your cpu and does it bring more performance now compared to last year?

Should i use this software to easily overclock my 9700k a bit higher?

I am fine with even a tiny overclock, stability is more important for me than pushing the extreme max.

Specs:

RTX 2070

i7 9700k

MSI Z390 GAMING EDGE AC

32GB 3600MHZ ram

2 m.2SSD's

Watercooling for CPU (which is always at 100% but planning on swapping it later)

if you have a k series and a z series mobo, why not overclock in bios?

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

How would i do that? I have 0 experience with overclocking and i want to keep it simple and not consume a lot of my time, i want to be able to get the best results by not having to focus constantly on what happens and what i have to change.

Even a +100mhz boost would be fine.

go to the bios, then clock up a bit. Ill tag @ShrimpBrimeb/c he is much more knowledgeable in overclocking then I am.

Im to afraid of bricking my system by changing any setting. Thats why i was trying to find some type of AI software to do this for me.

you wont brick it. the worst that can happen realistically is you being to agressive with what you are getting for your current voltage, and you have to clear cmos to reboot.

I believe my CPU is about 2 years old now. Isn't it possible for the CPU to die more easily now?

nogt really, you still see people with 3770ks overclocking them to the max.

Isn't it a good idea to enable the "gaming boost" in the bios?

It says it overclocks the cpu to 5GHZ, but im not sure if i can trust it

What does it do?

doubt.

If you want to, go to gamersnexus or jayz2cents and look up how to overclock. (Probably Jayz would be better)

That is the fastest and easiest way to overclock. Gaming boost will work fine, the board automatically adjusts everything for you.

I heard from people irl that it overvolts my CPU like crazy and can damage it. Are you sure gaming boost will work fine?

Will it cause my CPU to always be at a certain volt or does it keep adding the voltage together with the frequency automatically?

It will add voltage when needed.

You have a 100c limit before the cpu throttles.

The board may over-volt a tad more than it should need, but not far enough to cause damage or break the cpu.

Game boost makes my cores run at 4.7ghz at all times and i think it can reach more, but its not going any higher than 4.7ghz.

Is there a way to allow my cpu to take the max it can take before instability?

I tested my cpu with prime 95 and the max temp it reached was 78 degrees with game boost on (4.7ghz).

62 degrees in cinebench r20 with game boost on (4.7ghz).

That's the max it's designed to run at.

For faster speeds, you'll have to use other methods. Be it in the bios or through software.

Try Intel extreme tuning utility in windows or manually set all core multiplier in bios.

Start at 4.8ghz and about 1.275 - 1.30v, the lesser voltage first.

Should i disable game boost first or make some other edits before doing so?

Will my cores always run at 1.3volts? i want the voltage to go down whenever im doing nothing.

Yes disable it first.

Pretty straight forward.

Set multiplier

Set voltage

= overclocked.

It really is that simple.

I still have a 2600k machine that is used by nephews/kids that has been overclocked to 4.6-4.8ghz pretty much since it came out (about 9 years ago). Heck I think it was a 3.8ghz chip so that is a pretty huge overclock. It is still as stable as the day I got it.

Like this?

What about the cache, do i have to overclock that aswell for some gains?

Its running at 1.4 volts, even though i have set it to 1.285V, but it runs.

Should i use core voltage offset instead? or just keep the voltage at 1.3V?

What should i do next?

I ran cinebench at 1.3V and every multiplier bumped up by 2 points.

My pc shut off a quarter in.

Hopefully you have been monitoring the core temps....

And sorry for delayed responses. I am at work here.

Alright, my temps were all fine.

My computer just instantly shut off, screen went black and at the same time i heard the clicking from my power supply (meaning it shut off at the same time).

867339db0adbe8d1282ed29066d6c99a.png

the Core voltage was set to 1.3 instead of 1.285 in here.

Is there anything else i have to change or something i have to do in the bios?

Well the PSU shut off or the board?

Cause if it's the PSU ( no idea what you have) you really want to replace asap and OC later.

So do experiment. Mine doesnt shut off (8700k on Maximus X hero) from overclocking and generally get a blue screen or just a hang if an OC is bad.

Important because a PSU can take out other hardware with it. So try not to replicate this shut down often, but must diagnose which component caused the it.

I have gotten a new psu 1 week ago, no issues with it.

Its a 850W Seasonic Focus GX-850, so i should have more than enough power.

Could some setting in the bios be causing this maybe?
