Import hdd to freenas without losing data

If I have a fresh installation of freenas, can I install and import a zfs hard drive that already has data on it from a different freenas?

Was it in a RAID?

I don't think so, it's just a single drive by itself (but it's not the boot drive)

Yes you can import pools. However you should export it in the old system first to ensure compatibility.

Plug the drive in, in FreeNAS open the terminal and run the command 

zpool import

 

This will list any pools that configuration data can be found for. then run the same command with the pools name.

e.g Pool name 'tank' you would run 

zpool import tank
