The forum shuts down at night?

WhitetailAni

I use this forum a lot.

I've noticed that around 4 PM CST, everyone just seems to disappear.

No new posts on the side.

No comments on other posts.

Nothing.

Everyone just gives up.

Anyone else noticed this?

There's a lot of Europeans and Asians who use this site. Funny enough, most of the regulars who are American typically just stick to Status Updates and certain threads.

Check out my guide on how to scan cover art here!

30 minutes for a response.

Usually I get one in 10 minutes on something though if it's a tech issue it's just them saying something stupid like "Is it plugged in and turned on?" when I'm asking about a blue screen of death or iMac displaying just a light blue screen.

Really, guys?

I'm asking about blue screens and you're asking if the computers have power.

If I'm seeing a blue screen how would I not have power?

Well, that doesn't really have to do with what I said, but sure.

Kind of.

I will continue watching this and see if it changes.

Maybe there's like a forum naptime from 4 PM CST to 9 PM CST or something.

It makes sense for European users because 4 PM CST = 11 PM in Europe plus or minus one hour

4PM CST is about 3PM my time and thats my last break at work. Im generally only on the forum between when I get up at 7AM and about 8:50AM, then again when I get home around 6PM until I go to bed, at least during the week. People do work you know. That also being said I only really surf select sections of the forum.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

“Is it plugged” in can be more complicated than that because there is more than one thing that plugs into another thing in a PC.  If they’re really asking about wall power I can see that one though.  iMacs generally only have the wall power port and various peripheral plugs which simplifies things a lot.  They actually have a lot of other plugs too but they’re all internal and not accessible.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Usually it's "is the thing powered?"

So you are advocating for a single world time zone disregarding whether it’s daytime or not?  That would have massive repercussions for world power usage and SADs patients.  To the point that it would kill people I think. China does that my memory is that while there are conveniences there are also problems.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

I am not.

I am pointing out an observation.

Why does everyone automatically assume I want to promote something when it is just an observation or an idea...

It's like 4 PM is work time for everyone.

Ironically, I'm pretty much only on here at work with this open in the background. I'm off work at 1800 AST. Which would be 2100 CST.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

Because that’s how it works.   Suppose for example I started a topic on randomly “the benefits of hamster sodomization” this sounds like I am advocating for sodomizing hamsters.  It’s creepy that the very concept even occcured (blame the comic book “preacher”)

Well that's like 5pm here on the east coast and that is a transition time of day for a lot of people.

People driving home from work or finishing up things for the day at home.

People getting ready to go to work or on their drive to work for the night shift.

Also most people probably don't live on the forum like a day job but just hit it when they happen to feel like it.

That would be my guess.

😁

See?
Everyone's gone again.

Though today it was around 3 PM.

Well I think quite some evidence has been collected now mentioned by people here in this thread right?

- People are asleep and doing other things. It's now 11 PM here in Europe, so say generally late evening in Europe, deep into the night further East on the Eurasian continent towards Russia and early morning even further like western Asia.

- It's like end of afternoon in the US, so I guess people are finishing up at or going home from work (depending on their exact work times).

If the main demographic here is indeed Europeans and Asians, then I'm not surprised by the low activity: We're practically all asleep and the rest of the world is wrapping up their day.
