Razer's new non gaming laptop

Summary

 Razer launched their new Razerbook 13 laptop that is focused on productivity.

There is a design change

It comes with a 16:10 aspect ratio display with fhd+ or uhd both at 60 hz with touch optional. 

You get a 11th Gen i5 and i7. All of them are evo certified.

My thoughts

 It's actually nice that razer is giving more options. I would love to see a 16:10 display on their stealth and blade lineup.

Yeah this seems like a laptop that is not gonna last long. Razer laptops have always been very very hit or miss with their quality and this being their cheapest yet I don't see it last more than 2 years before it breaks.

Reasonable hate. Their products are ugly, overpriced, and unreliable. Their laptops are garbage and nobody should ever buy them. I highly doubt this one will be any different.

@kelvinhall05 I do get where the hate comes from and I'm not defending them (though I do like their products, look at my signature), I just feel that people band waggon and don't take experience from having and using their products. And its the fact that people won't complain if their product works but will if it does not. So it skews the perspective of a wider audience to be negative. I'm sure if  surveyed  the forum of those who have had their products most would 'positive' and still work or just not be used any more.

Now to discover what kind of engineering have they thought this time to make them break in the most fabulous way.

One day I will be able to play Monster Hunter Frontier in French/Italian/English on my PC, it's just a matter of time... 4 5 6 7 8 9 years later: It's finally coming!!!

Looks are subjective, but if we are going by Macbook standards, I'd say the Blade Stealth is the best looking ultrabook to date. It's priced competitively, and mine has been perfectly reliable over the "top" brands the past year, like the XPS13, G14, and MSI's offering.

 

It seems like past experiences cloud thoughtful, constructive criticism, I'd suggest you take another look. With all that said you're entitled to your opinions.

Honestly, to me, black ThinkPads are aesthetically unmatched. I don't understand the whole bead-blasted aluminum plate look.

It looks really nice but I'm not too confident with the build quality. Yet another laptop that makes Apples bezels look like utter shit. Considering laptops like the Matebook x pro have been out for a few years now and the macbooks bezels still look like they came from 2009

This means that Razer has now 5 (!) different models on their 13" lineup and despite this it feels like every version is somehow a compromise.

 

I really like Razer because they build using aluminium, I own a Blade Stealth myself, but to me this is really nonsense and at this point it would have been much better to just have a laptop configurator, especially considering that the RAM is soldered to the mainboard and therefore not upgradable for all these models!

 

To sum up (without considering "older" 10th-gen Intel CPU models still on sale at a discounted price by Razer)

 

Book 13

-i5-1135G7, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, FHD 60Hz, $1'199

-i7-1165G7, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, FHD 60Hz Touch, $1'599

-i7-1165G7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, 4K 60Hz Touch, $1'999

 

Blade Stealth 13

-i7-1165G7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, GTX 1650 Ti, FHD 120Hz, $1'799

Differences i can spot so far

The Razer Book has a 16:10 screen that looks way better than the 16:9 with huge lower bezel found of the Blade Stealth, but the two version of the Stealth offer either a 60Hz OLED panel or a 120Hz. Both panels from the Blade Stealth are really good in color accuracy, especially the OLED one is great, while Razer is not advertising yet the specs of the new panels (since the size is different it is possible/likely that the manufacturer has changed). The Razer Book also has 4K display option, it was previously available for the Blade Stealth but it was removed from the lineup with the late 2020 update (the update which added the 11th-gen intel Chips). In my opinion a 4K display is overkill on a 13" laptop and with that screen size you get more disadvantages (cost but especially battery drain) than advantages (good image quality/sharpness).

 

The Blade Stealth has a GTX 1650 Ti while the Book has no discrete GPU.

 

The Razer Book has a HDMI 2.0 port and an SD card reader on the right side, where the Blade Stealth has an additional USB Type-A port.

I don't know if this is possible because the Book has no discrete GPU and therefore more room to fit these components, but assuming it's a quality (fast) one, the SD reader is a great addition.

 

The color of the finish is different and that is subjective; personally I prefer the black from the Blade Stealth, the "mercury" grey from the Book is fine but I think the white keycaps are horrible, it would be better to have black ones that would also match the screen bezel color. Anyway I believe they switched to mercury finish also to address the fingerprint "issues" of the black finish.

I saw a few reviews last night:

 

 

These are pre-production units but they look good. What I like about it is that it ticks all the boxes for me: light, compact, amazing display and PORTS (unlike Asus' new Zenbook that came without a headphone jack, which is a stupid idea but it's really Asus-like). My two concerns are battery life which pales in comparison with XPS lineup, and the price is ridiculous. $1200 for an i5 and 8GB is just bad. The $1600 is the only interesting one but the only way I would consider buying it is if it can be found on sale at around $1000. Until then I think the XPS lineup would is the best option and Dell could definitely kill the game by offering a Ryzen variant.

It looks nice, but Razer would really need to offer a Ryzen version to make it a decent value. Also interesting how the RAM is soldered in, which is awful IMO and makes gaming laptops more appealing.

I don't think the soldered RAM is an issue so much as that you currently have to pick from three static configurations. Want more than 8GB of RAM or 256GB of storage? Too bad, you have to step up to a model with a processor or display you didn't really care for. Makes Apple's customization feel dreamy in comparison.

I agree in that while there are productivity configurations that require more than 8gb of ram, there aren’t very many OF them

I would like to correct that statement. Some of their products are ugly, overpriced and unreliable. Not a huge fan of most of their stuff but the keyboard that I have from them fits my needs perfectly and I had tried to look if other brands had something similar but they don't. The blackwidow tournament edition has the best hand rest out of all the keyboards I have tried and alleviated my wrist issues that I had been dealing with for years.
